A telecommunication distribution box includes a housing and an electrical component mounted in the housing. A cover plate is movably connected to the housing and is movable between open and closed positions. A lip extends outwardly from the cover plate. The lip covers the electrical component when the cover plate is in the closed position to prevent accessing and removing the electrical component.

A printed circuit board is disposed in the housing. At least one first optical termination is connected to the printed circuit board to receive cables from a base station router. At least one second optical termination is connected to the printed circuit board to receive cables from at least one metro cell. A power supply module is connected to the printed circuit board to supply power thereto.

Method and apparatus for circuit emulation with integrated network diagnostics and reduced form factor in large public communication networks

An Ethernet extension device is provided for metro or last mile Ethernet service via twisted pairs as opposed to fiber optics. The Ethernet extension device is implemented as a plug-in extension for existing infrastructure (e.g., in a standard electrical wall box or Type-200&#x2122; Mechanics card) that employs lighting and power cross protection required by the telephone companies for Ethernet connectivity to the telephone network (e.g., for connection between a user's building and a telephone company building over existing outdoor telephone cables).

Method for extending Ethernet over twisted pair conductors and to the telephone network and plug-in apparatus for same employing standard mechanics

An automated conversion method and apparatus are provided to automatically detect the type of an incoming signal (e.g., SONET or Ethernet signal) at a site and to encapsulate outgoing data, or not, based on that detection to facilitate conversion to new infrastructure (e.g., TDM to Ethernet). The automatic detection can be achieved by alternating a search for a SONET signal or Ethernet signal received after a loss of signal or other similar event. Diagnostics of any prior valid transmission are retained in case the disruption was due to transmission quality problem rather than a change in the transmission protocol (i.e. SONET to Ethernet or Ethernet to SONET). The apparatus has an FPGA loaded by a microprocessor with the hardware configuration necessary to support either an IP or SONET configuration when change is detected in the format of the signal arriving at the optical port of the premises device.

Method and apparatus for automated subscriber-based TDM-IP conversion

A system and method provide enhanced link loss forwarding in an Ethernet system to determine link degradation and to selectively block and re-establish transport between a near end device and far end device based on a SONET connection between end devices and link status detection using local packets. When an excessive number of errors are detected in an Ethernet port, a device enters a Links Off mode from a Transport mode where Ethernet ports are turned off at both ends of a circuit associated with the errors. A Block Transport mode is then entered where local packets (e.g., OAM packets) are monitored to evaluate link quality (e.g., SONET bit error rate). Transport mode is re-established when acceptable link quality is achieved for a selected period of time.

A reduced size multiplexer and, in particular, a reduced size optical signal multiplexer module is provided for use in a reduced size enclosure. The optical signal multiplexer module has electrical and optical connectors on its faceplate to provide ease in access without having to remove the optical signal multiplexer from the enclosure. The optical signal multiplexer circuit is configured in a standard Type 400 mechanics circuit board arrangement. The optical signal multiplexer module therefore can be inserted into an enclosure in a direction opposite to that in which the DS1 or DS3 connector projects from the face plate, so that the DS1 or DS3 connector remains freely accessible outside of the enclosure when the optical signal multiplexer module is fully loaded into the enclosure. DS1 and DS3 cables and optical fibers can thus be easily coupled to the DS1 and DS3 and optical connectors, respectively, when the SONET multiplexer circuit is fully loaded into the enclosure.

Method for extending ethernet over twisted pair conductors and to the telephone network and plug-in apparatus for same employing standard mechanics

A system and method for transmitting DS3 signals over long distances over a plurality of twisted pair conductors is provided. A DS3 interface is provided. The DS3 signal is inversely multiplexed into a plurality of data streams. Overhead is added to the data streams to generate packets having stream identifiers and packet number identifiers. At the receive end, received packets are synchronized using the stream and packet number identifiers, and multiplexed back into a DS3 signal. Systems according to embodiments of the invention are compatible with existing loopback codes, passing through a first loopback code received, and optionally entering a loopback mode where more than one loopback code is received consecutively without an intervening loop down code being received. The incorporated technology permits very small packaging and thereby permits use in small outdoor enclosures. Connection interfaces adapt automatically to the application and provide further conveniences for use in telephone company outdoor cabinets.

Apparatus and method for transmitting a DS3 signal over multiple twisted pair conductors

A central office module and a remote terminal module are provided for span powering a variety of high speed DS3 and higher-bandwidth communication modules that require sufficiently little power so as to permit their powering over as many as four telephone wires of at least one mile in length. The up to four twisted pairs only provide power between the central office, remote terminal, controlled environment vault, hut or similar location including the telephone room or closet at a large remote site and remote terminal.

Coaxial cables and optical fibers can thus be easily coupled to the coaxial and optical connectors, respectively, when the SONET multiplexer circuit is fully loaded into the enclosure.
