The present document describes methods of using compositions for inhibiting biofilm formation, or disrupting existing or developing biofilms in a subject, which composition comprises at least one chromophore and a pharmacologically acceptable carrier.

The present technology generally relates to a method for modulating in situ production of energy by a biological tissue. The method comprises stimulating the biological tissue by exposing the biological tissue to a photostimulated biophotonic composition for a time sufficient to initiate the production of energy by the biological tissue.

In various aspects, the present disclosure relates to fibers and fabric media comprising photoactivatable agents and to fibers and fabric media that are photoactivatable by photoactivation of the photoactivatable agents. In some instances, the fibers and the fabric media have photoactivatable agents present on their surface (e.g., the fiber/fabric is coated or sprayed with the photoactivatable agents or the fiber/fabric is dipped into a composition or a formulation comprising the photoactivatable agent). In other instances, the photoactivatable agents are incorporated into the materials making the fibers (e.g., the photoactivatable agents are mixed/compounded with the materials making the fibers). The photoactivatable fibers of the present disclosure comprise at least one thermoplastic polymer and at least photoactivatable agent that absorbs and emits light between about 400 nm and about 800 nm.

The present disclosure provides biophotonic topical compositions, kits and their uses. In some aspects, the biophotonic topical compositions of the present disclosure comprise a first chromophore, a salt selected from one or more bicarbonate or carbonate salts or a combination of the foregoing salts, and one or more gelling agents. In some aspects, the biophotonic topical compositions of the present disclosure comprise a first chromophore, one or more polyols, and one or more gelling agents. The biophotonic compositions of the present disclosure do not include an oxidant selected from the group consisting of a peroxide, a peroxy acid, hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide, an alkali metal peroxide, an alkali metal percarbonate, peroxyacetic acid, and an alkali metal perborate. Antitoxic fibers and fibrous media contain impregnated material including an antitoxin. A method for producing antitoxic fibers and fibrous media includes impregnating a fibrous media by dipping in a dipping solution containing a concentrate of an antitoxin to form a fiber with impregnated material including an antitoxin. The impregnated material is at least about 1.0% to about 2.5% by weight of the fibers and includes additive chemical components including at least one of an anionic, cationic or nonionic component, an oil and/or an organic solvent, and an alcohol. The additives include those found in a spin finish. The antitoxin is in an amount of at least 0.1% by weight of the fiber. The manufacturing process can be applied to any woven or nonwoven media. Products with antitoxic properties formed therefrom include wound dressings, gowns, articles of clothing, surgical drapes, protective clothing, shoe covers, gloves, hair covers, air filters, including facemasks, privacy, hygienic products, curtains, medical tape, and wipes.

The invention provides a novel method for manufacturing iodinated resin particulates that have widespread utility as disinfectants. The invention also provides novel iodinated demand disinfectant iodinated resins that have superior properties than resins known in the art. The novel manufacturing process of the current invention is highly efficient and environmentally friendly and is conducted without the presence of water. Additionally, the manufacturing process produces iodinated resins that have better overall biological performance than resins produced by prior art methods owing to higher degrees of iodine in the manufactured resin particulates and higher degrees of uniformity of iodine content when comparing particulate to particulate.

A method for disinfecting microorganisms in metalworking fluids without leaving behind unacceptable amount of chemicals in the treated fluids. The method comprises passing the fluid in a recirculating cooling system through a filter, which contains a demand disinfectant, preferably an iodinated resin. The iodinated resin inhibits the growth of microorganism in the fluid, which is then cycled back into the system. The present invention also relates to a filter and system for disinfecting microorganisms in metalworking fluids.
