Disclosed herein are modified carbonic anhydrase enzymes, and a process of using same for the extraction, production and purification of carbon dioxide gas. More particularly, modified carbonic anhydrase enzymes are used for the production, purification of carbon dioxide and the products of the hydration reaction, hydrogen and bicarbonate ions Also, this technology is used to enhance the production of carbon dioxide in blood or in reverse osmosis desalination to remove carbon dioxide. Specifically, the invention relates to a modified carbonic anhydrase enzyme possessing improved activity and a process whereby immobilized modified carbonic anhydrase contained within a reactor device catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide.

Modified carbonic anhydrase enzymes and their use in carbon dioxide sequestration and elimination

The present invention includes a method and apparatus for monitoring drug compliance by detecting markers, such as odors, upon exhalation by a patient after medication is taken, wherein such markers result either directly from the medication itself or from an additive combined with the medication. In the case of olfactory markers, the invention preferably utilizes electronic sensor technology, such as the commercial devices referred to as 'artificial noses' or 'electronic noses,' to non-invasively monitor compliance. The invention further includes a reporting system capable of tracking compliance (remote or proximate) and providing the necessary alerts.

Marker detection method and apparatus to monitor drug compliance

Human manganese superoxide dismutase (hMn SOD) having catalytic activity which differs from natural hMn SOD is disclosed. The hMn SOD of the invention exhibits reduced or no product inhibition compared to natural hMn SOD, while preferably maintaining equal or improved catalytic activity. The hMn SOD of the invention can be used as an antioxidant to prevent or treat cytotoxicity resulting from oxidation.
