A rotor blade retention assembly includes a central hub, a rotor blade including an upper outer surface, a lower outer surface, a blade hole, and a proximal end coupled to the central hub, a strap member extending along a portion of the rotor blade such that a distal end receiving portion extends into the blade hole, and a retainer assembly disposed within the blade hole and coupled to the strap member. The retainer assembly includes an upper bushing and a lower bushing slidably disposed within the blade hole. The upper bushing includes a counterbored portion. The retainer assembly also includes an outboard blade pin disposed within the distal end receiving portion and includes a blade pin inner cavity.

A rotor blade assembly connectable to a rotor hub configured to rotate about a center axis includes a torsional pitch member coupled to the rotor hub, a torque tube coupled to the torsional pitch member, wherein the torsional pitch member extends away from the center axis through a portion of the torque tube, a blade coupled to the torque tube, and a pitch control member coupled to the torque tube and configured to control a pitch angle of the blade, wherein the torsional pitch member includes a first curvilinear channel and a second curvilinear channel each having a front side and a back side, wherein the first curvilinear channel and the second curvilinear channel are disposed adjacent to each other, such that the back side of the first curvilinear channel faces the back side of the second curvilinear channel.

Rotor assembly connectable to rotor hub and having pitch control

A rotor blade assembly of an aircraft having a rotor hub including a structural member having an inboard end and an outboard end, the structural member being connectable with the rotor hub. A spar surrounds the structural member and extends at least partially along a rotor blade axis. A pitch bearing assembly supports the spar relative to the structural member. The pitch bearing assembly includes an inboard pitch bearing mounted to the inboard end of the structural member and an outboard pitch bearing mounted to the outboard end of the structural member. The rotor blade assembly additionally includes a centrifugal assembly including a centrifugal bearing disposed between the inboard pitch bearing and the outboard pitch bearing relative to the rotor blade axis.

An extension assembly for a rotor system for rotating a plurality of rotor blades about a rotor axis with a central rotor hub that defines the rotor axis includes a beam assembly and a first bearing assembly. The beam assembly is configured to attach to the central rotor hub and is positioned at least partially within a corresponding one of the plurality of rotor blades. The first bearing assembly is configured to be fastened to the beam assembly and to at least one of a leading edge or a trailing edge of the corresponding one of the plurality of rotor blades.

A rotor blade attachment assembly for use with a rotor hub to which a rotor blade assembly is connected includes a hub extender having an inboard end and an outboard end. The inboard end of the hub extender is configured to form a connection with the rotor hub. A blade fold axis about which the rotor blade rotates relative to the rotor hub is defined at the connection. An inboard bearing is mounted within an interior of the hub extender adjacent the inboard end and an outboard hearing is mounted within the interior of the hub extender adjacent the outboard end. A tension torsion strap is operably coupled to the inboard bearing and the outboard bearing.

A hub assembly for a rotary wing aircraft having a rotor shaft which rotates about a rotational axis includes: a hub extender arm coupled to the rotor shaft; a pitch bearing that is disposed within and connected to the hub extender arm; and a rotor blade assembly having an inboard section disposed within the hub extender arm and connected to the pitch bearing; wherein the hub extender arm has an inboard cross-sectional area where coupled to the rotor shaft that is greater than an outboard cross-sectional area where coupled to the pitch bearing.

A flexbeam rotor blade assembly includes a flexbeam having a body that includes a first surface, a second, opposing surface, and an opening extending through the first and second surfaces. At least one snubber is mounted to one of the first and second surfaces spaced along the body from the opening. A snubber retainer is mounted to one of the first and second surfaces between the body and the at least one snubber. The snubber retainer includes a retainer plate having a snubber attachment member to which the snubber assembly is mounted and a mounting arm including a retainer plate opening spaced from the snubber attachment member. The retainer plate opening registers with the opening in the flexbeam. A mechanical fastener extends through the retainer plate opening and the opening in the flexbeam. The mechanical fastener joins the snubber retainer to the one of the first and second surfaces.

A pitch bearing assembly for a rotor blade and a hub assembly of a rotary wing aircraft includes a single inner race. An inboard outer race surrounds an inboard portion of the inner race and includes a first inboard blade connector and a second inboard blade connector that are configured to connect to the rotor blade. An inboard bearing is disposed between the inboard portion of the single inner race and the inboard outer race and includes an elastomer. An outboard outer race surrounds an outboard portion of the single inner race and includes a first outboard blade connector and a second outboard blade connector that are configured to connect to the rotor blade. An outboard bearing is disposed between the outboard portion of the inner race and the outboard outer race and includes an elastomer.

Low drag high capacity pitch bearing for rigid rotor aircraft

A rotor blade assembly of an aircraft. The rotor blade assembly includes a blade attachment assembly rotatable with respect to a rotor hub assembly of the aircraft about a blade fold axis, and a pitch control assembly. The pitch control assembly includes a horn mount attachable to the rotor hub assembly, and a teeter bar hingedly attached to the horn mount at an interface, the interface defining a pitch control fold axis. The pitch control assembly is foldable about the pitch control fold axis when the pitch control fold axis is aligned with the blade fold axis.

A trim tab for use in a blade housing includes a cavity connected to an opening extending from the cavity out a trailing edge of the blade housing, the cavity has a first dimension which is greater than a second dimension of the opening at a same spanwise location of the blade housing. The trim tab has a trim portion, a head portion having a head dimension substantially similar to the first dimension, and a tail portion connecting the trim portion and the head portion. The tail portion has a tail dimension substantially similar to the second dimension such that the trim tab is retainable by the blade housing when the head portion is disposed within the cavity and the tail portion is disposed within the opening.

An elastomeric bearing configured for use in a rotor blade assembly is provided including an inner race, and an outer race. An outer damper portion is arranged adjacent the outer race and an inner snubber portion is arranged adjacent the inner race. A rigid transition layer is disposed between the outer damper portion and the inner snubber portion. The rigid transition layer has a generally circular cross-section except at a segment which has been removed and which defines a generally planar surface at a chord of the segment. The generally planar surface is configured to contact a surface of an adjacent component.

The lag restraint star is coupled to each of the blade retention yokes to facilitate uniform blade lead/lag and uniform blade coning.

A retaining assembly for a tail rotor system is provided including a washer having a plurality of splines. The washer is configured to couple to an adjacent pitch change shaft. A retaining nut includes a self-locking feature and a flange arranged at a first end. The retaining nut is configured to threadably couple to the pitch change shaft such that the flange is in contact with the washer. The flange includes a plurality of first holes configured to at least partially align between the splines of the washer. A lock plate includes a body and a plurality of tabs extending generally perpendicularly from the body. The lock plate is slidably positioned about the pitch change shaft adjacent the flange. The lock plate is operably coupled to the retaining nut and the washer to limit rotational movement thereof relative to the pitch change shaft.
