Methods and apparatuses for bonding polymeric parts are disclosed. Specifically, in one embodiment, the polymeric parts are bonded by plastically deforming them against each other while they are below the glass transition temperatures.

Plasticity induced bonding

Methods and apparatuses for bonding polymeric parts are disclosed. Specifically, in one embodiment, the polymeric parts are bonded by plastically deforming them against each other while they are below the glass transition temperatures. A method includes: placing a first polymeric part in contact with a second polymeric part; and plastically deforming the first polymeric part and the second polymeric part against each other to bond the first polymeric part to the second polymeric part. Additionally, during the plastic deformation, a temperature of the first polymeric part is less than a glass transition temperature of the first polymeric part and a temperature of the second polymeric part is less than a glass transition temperature of the second polymeric part.

T-peel test fixture for a vertical test machine. The test fixture includes an upper grip for holding an arm of a peel specimen that has a hangover tail and a lower grip for holding the other arm of the peel specimen. A first rack is connected to a support hanger. The upper grip and the first rack move in a vertical direction at a selected speed. A second rack including a support plate located to support the specimen hangover tail is driven in the vertical direction at one-half the selected speed. The fixture thus supports the hangover tail so that symmetry is maintained with respect to gravity to suppress the interfering effect of gravity on a peel test.

T-peel test fixture

Filler-enhanced polymeric fiber. High aspect ratio filler particles are placed into intimate contact during processing with a polymeric fiber. The filler particles serve as templates to orient the molecular structure of the polymeric fiber to enhance mechanical properties. The highly oriented molecular morphology results in enhanced axial stiffness and strength.

Novel thin flexible decorative colored cementitious veneers of about 5 to 60 mils in thickness, useful in wall coverings, floor coverings and on ceilings; and methods of producing said thin decorative cementitious veneers wherein printing, embossing and casting are performed simultaneously. The basic method comprises the steps of placing a wet cloth on a mold engraved with a design followed by placing a plastic cement mix on said wet cloth to simultaneously form a casting and a temporary cloth mold which is the exact copy of the original mold, immediately removing the plastic cement casting together with the temporary cloth mold from the original engraved mold before it sets, thereby making the original mold immediately available for the next casting, removing the temporary cloth mold from said plastic cement casting before it sets, and air curing said casting while being stored.
