A geospatial modeling system may include at least one geospatial information database to store stereo-geographic image data and geographic feature data. A processor may cooperate with the geospatial information database for generating cost coefficients defining a three-dimensional (3D) cost cube using image matching operators based upon the stereo-geographic image data, adjusting the cost coefficients of the 3D cost cube based upon the geographic feature data to generate an adjusted 3D cost cube, and generating a geospatial model based upon solving the adjusted 3D cost cube, e.g. for a best cost surface. The system and method provide an integrated approach to creating a geospatial model using available data from multiple sources.

Geospatial modeling system and related method using multiple sources of geographic information

The mobile data collection system includes a positioning system, such as a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and/or an Inertial Navigation System (INS), to generate position and time data. A down looking line scan camera for mounting on a vehicle, obtains a series of line scan images of a path, such as a road. A data collection controller is connected to the positioning system and the line scan camera to associate the line scan images with the corresponding position and time data. A database stores the line scan images and associated corresponding position and time data. An image processor identifies and marks features in the line scan images.

A computer-implemented method for generating an image-textured digital surface model (DSM) for a geographical area of interest including both buildings and terrain may include using a computer to generate a digital elevation model (DEM) of both the buildings and terrain for the geographical area of interest. The computer may also be used to selectively superimpose oblique optical images from the collection of optical images onto the DEM of both the buildings and terrain for the geographical area of interest and to thereby generate the image-textured DSM for the geographical area of interest including both buildings and terrain.

A method for converting between source coordinates in a source coordinate system and target coordinates in a target coordinate system includes the step of defining a coordinate system conversion tree extending from a root coordinate system and branching to a plurality of other coordinate-systems including the source and target coordinate systems so that the source and target coordinate systems are connected to a common coordinate system other than the root coordinate system. Coordinate conversions are performed between the source and target coordinates along branches extending from the source coordinate system to the common coordinate system and to the target coordinate system without returning to the root coordinate system. Contextual data is associated with the coordinates to permit conversion to an adjacent coordinate system. Since coordinate conversions are performed with respect to a common coordinate system, a distributed framework of coordinate systems is provided for reliably converting coordinates between source and target coordinate systems. New coordinate systems can be readily added to the tree.

A digital image processing system reduces errors in the parameters of a sensor geometry model, through which points in a captured digital image are geolocated to the surface of the earth by means of a `real time` co-registration mechanism that refines the geometry model associated with the working image in a matter of seconds. Using a co-registration mechanism such as that described in the U.S. Pat. No. 5,550,937, the system co-registers the reduced accuracy working digital image with a reference image, geographical spatial locations of respective pixels of which have been previously determined with a high degree of accuracy. The imagery co-registration operator adjusts the respective geometry models associated with its input images, in accordance with differences in cross-correlations of the respectively different spatial resolution versions of the two images, so as to bring the respective images into effective co-registration on image registration surface. Mutual registration on the image registration surface of the working and reference images reduces the parameter errors in the original working image's sensor geometry model to the same error resolution of the reference image's geometry model.

Adjustment of sensor geometry model parameters using digital imagery

A system and method for storing image data in a location remote from a display device which uses the data. The system uses plural reduced resolution image data sets and geographical coordination between the image being viewed and the data sets to substantially reduce the bandwidth required to transmit the image data and to shorten the time needed for transmission. Automatic transmission of data needed may be utilized.

Remote image exploitation display system and method

First and second digital images, such as terrestrial images captured by one or more spaceborne or airborne sensors, are transformed onto a registration surface in accordance with geometry models of the sensors, to bring the digital images into mutual alignment on the registration surface. The images are initially subsampled to obtain reduced spatial resolution versions of each image. For a base resolution version of each image, respective neighborhoods of pixels associated with matching point grids in each image are defined. Edge-preemphasized contents of respective neighborhoods of pixels of each image are cross-correlated with one another, to derive a measure of misregistration between the images. One or both of the geometry models of the sensors are modified in accordance with the measure of misregistration, so as to effectively decrease misregistration between the images on the registration surface. The neighborhood cross-correlation process is then repeated for increasingly higher spatial resolution versions of each image, to effect a coarse-to-fine improvement in registration error correction.

Mechanism for registering digital images obtained from multiple sensors

A screen-to-registration surface interface translates coordinate system parameters associated with screen-base image manipulation software to latitude and longitude parameters of a co-registration surface-based coordinate system. By invoking a data file linking mechanism of the `windows`-based display and manipulation software, the user may specify a given image manipulation operation to be executed with respect to plural images that have been imported into respective windows of the display. The registration surface coordinate system parameters are compatible with image collection geometry models. These values are then transformed by the respective collection geometry models to the respective digital image files of the linked images. To display these new pixel values, the geometry models associated with the respective digital images imported to the display screen are mapped by a cascaded mapping function, which cascades the image database-to-registration surface translation of the collection geometry model with the registration surface-to-screen coordinate transform, thereby coupling the new pixel values at the image array locations in the database specified by the manipulation parameters to the output display for exploitation by the user.

In multiprocessor systems, and especially in multiprocessor emulation systems, time alignment between the individual processors is accomplished by using a time window established in a Local Pseudo-Time Accumulator (LPA) at each processor and a time reference hereinafter referred to as Master Pseudo Time (MPT). During the run time, any processor which is within the time frame of the window may continue execution. Any processor which falls behind the window must halt the advance of the Master Pseudo Time untl the processor can execute long enough to move back into the window. Any processor which moves ahead of the window must enter an idle state until the Master Pseudo Time advances enough for the processing element to move back into the window.
