The present technology is an automated method for determining whether a patient-specific electrocardiogram (ECG) is either (a) Normal and can be excluded from manual review or (b) Abnormal and included for manual review. In one embodiment, the method comprises comparing a plurality of characteristics of the ECG with predetermined subthreshold levels that are set less than clinically significant levels of abnormality of the characteristics, wherein the characteristics of the ECG are selected from the group including T-Wave inversion, ST-Depression, QT segment duration, delta wave character, anterior S-wave character and ectopic or pre-mature beats. The method continues by selecting the ECG for manual review if the plurality of selected characteristics exceed the predetermined subthreshold levels yet are below the corresponding clinically significant threshold levels of abnormality of the characteristics.

Systems and methods for assessing electrocardiogram reliability

Methods and apparatus for assessing cardiac risks based on heart activity data obtained during a recovery stage of an exercise test of a specific patient. An embodiment of a method comprises determining a prognostic period of the heart activity data after a time tafter a peak heart rate of the exercise test, and ascertaining a risk indicator. The risk indicator is based on (a) the heart rate activity data during the recovery stage only after time tand (b) a post-exercise heart rate reserve based on a post-exercise resting heart rate. This embodiment of the method further includes providing an assessment of cardiac risk of a specific patient based on the ascertained risk indicator.

Methods and apparatus for determining a patient specific QT-RR curve. One embodiment of a method in accordance with the technology comprises providing electrophysiological data for a specific patient. The method can further include: (a) determining QT durations and RR values for a plurality of heart beats of the specific patient from the electrophysiological data; (b) ascertaining effective RR intervals for the plurality of heart beats by weight-averaging the RR values according to the equation Effective RR=C&#xd7;Effective RR+(1&#x2212;C)&#xd7;[RR], where C is a number between 0 and 1, and where RRis based on an observed RRvalue and a trend predicted RR value; and (d) finding a value Cdefined by a value of C where a curve fitted to the QT durations and the ascertained effective RR intervals is within a desired standard deviation.

Methods for quantifying QT-RR

Methods and apparatus for assessing cardiac risks in a specific patient. One embodiment of a method in accordance with the invention comprises providing heart rate activity of a specific patient including a windowed time series relating to heart rate variability during a heart rate test. This method further includes determining a frequency domain value based on energy values of frequency bands of the heart rate variability in the windowed time series, and/or determining an aggregate power for a frequency band of the windowed time series. This method further includes assessing the risk of a cardiac event based on the frequency value and/or the aggregate power.
