Consistent with the present disclosure, an encoder circuit is provided at a transmit side of an optical fiber link that maps an input sequence of bits of fixed length k to a sequence of symbols of a codeword of length n, such that the symbols of the codeword define a predetermined transmission probability distribution. In one example, each subgroup of bits of the k input bit sequence is provided to a respective look-up table, whereby the sub-group of bits constitutes an address of a particular memory location in the corresponding look-up table. Based on the address, the contents at the particular memory location addressed by each subgroup of bits are output as a corresponding portion of a codeword. Each such codeword portion is provided to a further memory or buffer, such that the entire codeword is assembled in the buffer and output to forward error correction (FEC) circuitry. In a further example, the contents of each memory location of each look-up table is determined based on a sphere constellation shaping.

A frequency modulation continuous wave (FMCW)-based system configured to convert measurements of a linearly modulated wave from a time-domain into a frequency-domain to produce a non-linear frequency signal, where the non-linear frequency signal comprises a known linear component representing the desired linear modulation and an unknown non-linear component representing the non-linearity of the modulation. The FMCW-based system is further configured to determine coefficients of a basis function approximating a difference between the non-linear frequency signal and the linear frequency component in the frequency domain. The FMCW-based system is further configured to detect one or multiple spectrum peaks in the distorted beat signal with the distortion compensated according to the basis function with the determined coefficients to determine one or multiple distances to the one or multiple objects in the scene.

Frequency modulation continuous wave (FMCW)-based system for estimation and compensation of nonlinearity in linearly swept sources

A method for a target image reconstruction is provided. The method includes emitting stepped frequency waveforms having different constant frequencies at different periods of time, modulating the stepped frequency waveforms into frequency ranges each having a first frequency and a second frequency, wherein each of the stepped frequency waveforms are increased from the first frequency to the second frequency based on a range function, wherein the modulated stepped frequency waveforms are arranged with some sparsity factor. The method further includes transmitting the modulated stepped frequency waveforms to a target and accepting reflection of the modulated stepped frequency waveforms reflected from the target interfering the modulated stepped frequency waveforms and the reflection of the modulated stepped frequency waveforms to produce beat signals of interferences between the modulated stepped frequency waveforms and the reflection of the modulated stepped frequency waveforms, and reconstructing an image of the target from the beat signals.

Coherent optical sensor with sparse illumination

A system for a target image reconstruction includes a stepped frequency transmitter configured to emit a stepped frequency waveform having different constant frequencies at different periods of time and a modulator configured to modulate the stepped frequency waveform emitted at each period of time with a modulation signal to output a modulated stepped frequency waveform with an increased bandwidth. The system includes a transceiver configured to transmit the modulated stepped frequency waveform to a target and to accept reflection of the modulated stepped frequency waveform reflected from the target, a mixer to interfere the unmodulated stepped frequency waveform and the reflection of the modulated stepped frequency waveform to produce a beat signal of the interference of the unmodulated stepped frequency waveform with the reflection of the modulated stepped frequency waveform, and a signal processor to reconstruct an image of the target from the beat signal.

Frequency modulated image reconstruction

An optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for profilometry measurements of a specimen with a lateral resolution across the profilometry measurements is provided. The OCT system includes a line-field generator, an interferometer, and a spectrometer. The line-field generator includes a filter arranged in a focal plane of a lens for spatially filtering extended line-field light into a line-field light of a width equal to the lateral resolution. The interferometer is configured to interfere the line-field light reflected from the specimen illuminated with a line-shaped focus with a reference signal of the line-field light to produce an interference pattern. The spectrometer configured to analyze spectral components of the interference pattern in a digital domain to produce the profilometry measurements of the specimen.

A frequency modulation continuous wave (FMCW)-based system includes an emitter to transmit at least one linearly modulated wave of radiation to a scene and a receiver to receive a reflection of the transmitted wave from one or multiple objects located at different locations in the scene. The system interferes a copy of the wave outputted by the emitter with the reflection of the transmitted wave received by the receiver to produce a beat signal with spectrum peaks corresponding to reflections from the different locations at the scene. The beat signal is distorted due to the non-linearity of the modulation. The system includes a processor to detect a number of spectrum peaks in the distorted beat signal and, only in response to detecting multiple spectrum peaks, jointly determine coefficients of a basis function approximating the non-linearity of the modulation and distances to the different locations at the scene having the objects causing the reflection resulting in the spectrum peaks in the distorted beat signal.

Reference-free nonlinearity correction for FMCW-based sensing systems

A communication system transmits an input block of bits over a communication channel using a prefix tree that maps a dyadic distribution of compositions of output symbols to prefixes of variable lengths. A path to each leaf of the prefix tree is defined by a prefix formed by a unique sequence of binary values of a length equal to a depth of the leaf. Each leaf is associated with a composition that has at least a number of unique permutations equals to two in a power of a length of a suffix of the block of input bits. The system selects a composition identified in the prefix tree by a prefix, permutes the selected composition according to a suffix, and transmits the permuted composition over a communication channel. The compositions are selected to reduce one or combination of energy and kurtosis of transmission.

System and method for short block length distribution matching

A method decodes an optical signal transmitted over an optical channel from a transmitter to a receiver. The method produces, from the transmitted optical signal, a digital signal including received data symbols and received pilot symbols and determines phase noise on the pilot symbols using a statistical probability distribution of phase noise on the optical channel and errors between phases of the received pilot symbols and the transmitted pilot signals. The method estimates phase noise on the data symbols using an interpolation of the phase noise on the pilot symbols and compensates the digital signal with the phase noise on the data symbols to produce a filtered signal with an equalized phase. The method demodulates and decodes the filtered signal to produce an estimate of the transmitted optical signal.

Short block length distribution matching algorithm

A communication system includes a data source to receive a block of bits, a processor, a memory, in connection with the processor, to store a distribution matcher associated with a probability mass function (PMF) configured to match a block of equally likely input bits to a fixed number of output bits with values distributed according to the PMF of the distribution matcher using the processor. In this case, the distribution matcher contains a set of parallel binary distribution matchers which specify fully a target PMF, and a transmitter front end to transmit a block of shaped bits over a communication channel, such that bits in a sequence of the blocks of shaped bits are distributed according to the target PMF.

A variety of targeting moiety peptide epitope complexes (TPECs) are described in different embodiments. In each of the embodiments, however, a targeting moiety may be used to deliver the TPEC to an area of unwanted cells, allowing for a therapeutic effect to be delivered locally. The TPEC also contains a plurality of T-cell epitopes. The TPEC further comprises cleavage sites that release the T-cell epitopes from the targeting agent, and in some embodiments from each other, when they are in the microenvironment of the unwanted cells. Although the arrangement and number of T-cell epitopes varies in different embodiments described herein, once cleaved from the targeting agent (and any neighboring T-cell epitopes), the T-cell epitopes function by stimulating an immune response against the unwanted cells.

A padded injury reducing non slip pool decking has an expanded polypropylene substrate as a core with its surfaces and a coating upon the surfaces adhered following skiving upon the surfaces. The present invention seeks to reduce slip injuries around a pool by providing a padded surface. The padded surface attenuates impact forces that occur when a person falls, or a body part of a person, hits the deck. The present invention provides a cushioning action that has increased energy absorption properties over the existing surfaces around swimming pools. The core utilizes expanded polypropylene melted from its pellet stage into generally slab form with a polyurethane coating. The coating has a precise mixture of three components and various additives. The components include methylenebis and isothianzolin and the additives include traction, tints, among other things.
