A fluid pump includes a motor disposed within an outer housing. The motor includes a stator and a rotor in electromagnetic communication with the stator. Windings are disposed on the stator that receive an electric current for defining the electromagnetic communication. A pump element is attached to the rotor via a drive shaft. The pump element operates with the rotor to deliver a fluid through a hydraulic fluid path. A plurality of sensors measure information related to at least one of the stator, the windings, the rotor, the pump element, the fluid and the hydraulic fluid path. A controller is in communication with the windings for delivering the electric current to the windings. The controller is also in communication with the plurality of sensors for measuring and recording the information and communicating this information to one of an external memory and an external controller.

Control system for a smart pump located within a lubrication/cooling assembly

A stator of an electric motor includes a stator core having a plurality of teeth. A printed circuit board (PCB) is fixed with respect to the stator and includes a plurality of soldering structures defined within a surface of the printed circuit board. A winding set is disposed on the teeth. The winding set includes at least one wire that is wound around the teeth to at least partially define stator poles. Each wire of the winding set includes opposing ends that are attached to the printed circuit board at a dedicated soldering structure of the plurality of soldering structures.

A modular fluid pump includes a stator having a plurality of stator teeth and windings that are positioned on the stator teeth. A rotor has a central shaft and substantially hemispheric ends and a plurality of magnets that define an electromagnetic communication with the windings A housing surrounds the stator and includes a fixed end cap that receives one of the hemispheric ends of the central shaft and defines a rotational axis of the rotor. A securing end cap that receives the other hemispheric end of the central shaft. The central shaft and the fixed and securing end caps define the rotational axis of the rotor. Engagement of the hemispheric end with the central shaft and the fixed and securing end caps maintains the rotor and the central shaft aligned with the rotational axis and balanced within the stator.

Modular fluid pump for use in diverse applications

A motor assembly includes a housing having a motor cavity. A stator is disposed within the housing. A rotor rotates within the stator and within the motor cavity about a rotational axis. A controller is coupled with the stator having a filter circuit board and a main circuit board that are interconnected at a terminal header to define a multilayer circuit board assembly. The circuit board assembly has an electrical interface and a data interface attached to at least one of the filter circuit board and the main circuit board.

An apparatus includes two pumps and a circuit-changing valve connected to two cooling circuits, with the valve being controlled by a pressure differential created by the pumps. This simplifies controls, reduces components of the pumping system, and also provides a backup pump for each system. The valve's spool is controlled so that when the first pump is started before the second pump (or it generates a higher fluid pressure), the valve causes the two pumps to be connected in a serial arrangement with fluid being pumped through the first circuit and then through the second circuit. But when the second pump is started before the first pump, the valve causes the two pumps to be connected in a parallel arrangement so that the first pump moves fluid only through the first circuit, and the second pump moves fluid only through the second circuit. The valve includes an anti-dithering device.

Smart two-pump apparatus, control and method

A transmission shifter includes a base, a shift lever movable between gear positions, and a pawl, a pawl blocker, a permanent magnet, an electro-magnet, and an electrical circuit for selectively activating the electro-magnet when a predetermined vehicle condition is sensed. The permanent magnet's attraction to an iron based surface of the electro-magnet normally holds the blocker in a pawl-blocking position, keeping the shift lever in park position, until the electrical circuit activates the electro-magnet and the pawl is depressed. When activated, the electro-magnet biases the blocker toward a pawl-unblocked position. A ramp lever keeps the pawl blocker in the park position until the pawl mechanically moves the ramp lever and magnetically-biased blocker together, thus allowing the shift lever to be moved from park position. The park lock system is characterized by an absence of movement in response to an electrical signal to an electro-mechanical device and thus operates noise-free.

A park lock system for a shifter of an automatic transmission, according to one embodiment, includes a blocking member pivotal between a locked position to prevent movement of the shifter and an unlocked position for allowing movement of the shifter. At least a portion of the blocking member may include hard magnetic properties, such as having a permanent magnet coupled therewith. An electromagnet may have a core member proximate the magnetic portion of the blocking member to cause the blocking member to move to or remain in the locked position when the electromagnet is de-energized. Accordingly, when the electromagnet is energized, the electromagnet may be configured to generate a magnetic field in repelling polarity to the magnetic portion that causes the blocking member to move to the unlocked position.

An apparatus electrically connects a motor's on-board stator circuit board to multiple circuits on a controller circuit board using an edge connector on the controller circuit board that engages opposing pads on an edge of the stator circuit board. The edge connector includes tuning-fork-like conductors each with pairs of protruding arms positioned to both engage the pads for electrical contact and also frictionally engage the pads for mechanical retention. A related method of assembly uses the edge-connect system for quick, reliable and sure assembly even under blind assembly conditions.

The illustrated arrangements include an in-line single shaft version, a parallel side-by-side separate shaft version, and an inside-outside version. Each configuration includes a housing supporting formation of: shared structural support for the pumps and motors (e.g., bearings, stator, relationship of components), fluid pump and hydraulic system (e.g., fluid passageways, ports connectors) and motor electrical control (e.g., control circuitry and sensory components).

A shifter incorporates a shape memory alloy wire (SMA actuator) to control movement of a blocker to selectively prevent moving a shift lever (or pawl) out of its park position until predetermined vehicle conditions are met. A mechanical fuse (i.e., flexible overload spring) prevents damage to the SMA actuator where the shift lever (or pawl) can be frictionally stopped from movement despite the contraction of the SMA actuator. The control circuit for the SMA actuator includes a photo-electric switch for stopping electrical power to the SMA actuator when the shift lever is moved from its park position, and the shift lever includes structure for mechanically continuing to hold the switch open while out of park. Further, the control circuit is operably connected to an ignition key retaining mechanism so that the ignition key cannot be removed when the lever is not in its park position.

A shifter includes an actuator incorporating a shape memory alloy wire to control movement of lever-position-controlling components of a vehicle transmission shift lever. In one arrangement, the actuator controls movement of a cam to prevent moving a pawl out of park position until predetermined vehicle conditions are met. Alternatively, the actuator can be directly attached to the pawl itself for controlling movement of the pawl, or connected to a toggle linkage arrangement for controlling movement of the pawl. In still another arrangement, a magnet arrangement is used to motivate a pawl-blocking member. When necessary, a mechanical fuse is operably connected to the system to prevent damage to the shape memory alloy wire where there is risk of the pawl being frictionally stopped from movement despite the contraction of the shape memory alloy wire actuator.

A shifter includes an actuator, such as a shape memory alloy wire, to control movement of a set of strategically placed magnets on lever-position-controlling components of a vehicle transmission shift lever. In one arrangement, the actuator controls movement of a carrier carrying one or more of the magnets, the magnets controlling a position of a blocking member to prevent moving a pawl out of park position until predetermined vehicle conditions are met. Alternatively, the magnets can be carried by a cam, or slide, or wheel.

A solenoid having a housing and a coil disposed in the housing for generating a magnetic field when an electric current passes through the coil. A center pole is disposed within the coil, and the center pole is made of a ferromagnetic material. A rod assembly is movably disposed in the housing for movement between a rest position and an energized position. The rod assembly has a portion thereof disposed in the center pole, and includes a magnet having a polarity causing the magnet to be repelled from the center pole when an electric current passes through the coil. The magnet is encapsulated by an elastomeric material that contacts a stop surface when in the rest position to reduce noise resulting from shifting of the rod assembly from the energized position to the rest position.
