A system for providing an automated axial force to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in a wheelchair. An electronic transmission control receives one or more input signals generated by throttle position or other variables. The microprocessor generates an output signal that adjusts the axial force applied to a CVT thereby automatically adjusting the input to output ratio. The invention also provides a manually controlled variator is designed for use on a wheelchair. The manual shifter hydraulically adjusts an axial force imparted on a variator in communication with a wheelchair wheel and a hand rim. Application of the axial force causes the hand rim input and wheelchair wheel output ratio to change, permitting a wheelchair operator to manually adjust the input to output ratio to more easily operate the wheelchair.

A system and method is provided for identifying an unknown object from an object class such as transmissions, engines, and other parts. The system utilizes a classification scheme configured to distinguish objects of the object class based upon variations observable through visual inspection. In many instances, these variations can be relatively obscure. In use, the system presents sets of options for selection by a user. Each set is directed to a particular feature for distinguishing objects of the object class, and each option represents a distinct configuration for the corresponding feature. The system receives a selection of one of the options from each set of options presented that corresponds to a feature found on the unknown object. Once the system receives sufficient information in accordance with the classification scheme, it presents an identification for the unknown object. Beneficially, identification is accomplished through visual inspection of the unknown object without disassembly or need of substantial familiarity with the system or objects of the object class. In a preferred embodiment, the classification scheme directed to an object class of transmissions and is implemented in decision tree structure in which the sets of options are presented sequentially.

Apparatus and method for identification of transmissions and other parts

A kit for improving the repair of a transmission. The kit presents components in a well organized fashion. The kit includes certain individual components and groups of components in preassembled subassemblies. For example, a subassembly can be preassembled to factory level tolerances. Thus, during the repair, the defective, subassembly can be removed and the preassembled replacement can be installed, saving a significant amount of repair time. It also makes the refurbished transmission less likely to fail. If the kit contains all of the transmission parts, then it is likely that all or only a portion of the parts will be used during the repair. Any unused parts can then be placed back into the kit, along with the used parts, and the kit can be returned for a partial refund or a credit.

System for improving the refurbishing of a transmission

A new and simple hitch assembly comprising a vertically adjustable bar (vertical bar) secured within a mounting sleeve which in turn is securely attached to a hitch bar. A vertical securing pin releasably engages the vertical bar and is maintained in place by a spring, the pin and spring comprising the vertical securing mechanism. The hitch assembly mates with standard hitch receivers such that the relative height of a hitch ball may be varied. The hitch assembly is easy to manufacture and is durable, strong, and stable during towing. Such a hitch assembly is of simple design and has few movable parts. Such a hitch assembly is also compact and has a large range of height adjustment as it is mountable in alternative vertical orientations. The vertical bar has a series of holes in which the vertical securing pin is engaged.
