A load balancer is provided for balancing distribution of wireless clients among wireless access points. The load balancer includes a tracking implementation for tracking at least one telemetry parameter of each wireless client's wireless link with each respective wireless access point. A goal implementation is included for comparing one or more telemetry parameter against at least one predetermined goal to obtain a fitness measure. A control implementation is also provided for varying the operation of at least one of the respective wireless access points and wireless clients in response to the fitness measure, so as to balance the distribution of load among the respective wireless access points.

Wireless network self-adaptive load balancer

A system and method that enables efficient distribution of public warning information using a network infrastructure. Public warning messages are received by a wireless receiver coupled to a network. The wireless receiver broadcasts a message to users on the network responsive to receiving a public warning message.

System and method to distribute emergency information

In a wireless LAN (WLAN), methods, apparatuses and systems directed to facilitating configuration of a wireless network is provided. According to one implementation of the present invention, sensors are used to collect data associated with locations and other properties of access points of the wireless network. The collected data can then be used to assist in automatically configuring one or more aspects of the wireless network. In some implementations, the collected data can be used to dynamically re-configure the wireless network in real time. According to another implementation of the present invention, location computation mechanisms are used to collect data associated with the location of one or more wireless clients, and the data is used to dynamically adjust one or more radio frequency (RF) coverage maps in real time. The revised RF coverage maps can then be used to re-configure one or more operational parameters of the wireless network. Implementations of the present invention provide many advantages, such as automating the configuration of the wireless network in real time and facilitating network management decisions.

Automated configuration of RF WLANs via selected sensors

A wireless access point and method of deploying is disclosed including a radio component for wirelessly communicating with at least one mobile client and a connection from the access point to a network. A directional orientation component is provided for obtaining the directional orientation of the access point with respect to a predetermined coordinate system. The predetermined coordinate system can be a local coordinate system of a predetermined bounded area or with respect to the directional vectors relative to Earth's coordinate system.

A wireless device is disclosed, including an antenna system comprising one or more antenna elements for sending and receiving a wireless signal. One or more conductive members are included, having an edge displaced from and substantially directed toward the at least one antenna element, and cooperating therewith to establish a multiplicity of hemispherical beam patterns for a wireless signal. Embodiments with a multiplicity of antenna elements exhibit a high degree of isolation between said antenna elements.

Dual hemisphere antenna

A system for measuring output power from an antenna. A sensor receives a sample of wireless signals from the antenna and communicates data about the signal back to the transmitter in a manner such that the antenna pattern is undisturbed. An optical coupler, e.g., fiber optic, is used to send data from the sensor to the transmitter. Power for the sensor can be derived parasitically from the wireless signal or can be provided to the sensor optically.

Isolated sensor for an antenna

A wireless local area network is disclosed which includes a plurality of wireless access points each having a predetermined coverage area, and a plurality of wireless clients for establishing a wireless link with at least one wireless access point. Some or all of the wireless clients are within the respective coverage areas of at least a portion of wireless access points. A load balancer is provided for balancing distribution of wireless clients among wireless access points. The load balancer includes a tracking implementation for tracking at least one telemetry parameter of each wireless client's wireless link with each respective wireless access point. A goal implementation is included for comparing one or more telemetry parameter against at least one predetermined goal to obtain a fitness measure. A control implementation is also provided for varying the operation of at least one of the respective wireless access points and wireless clients in response to the fitness measure, so as to balance the distribution of wireless clients among the respective wireless access points.

A method for radar protection. The method includes recording energy events and calculating differences in recorded energy events to determine pulses. The method further includes sorting intervals between pulses into histogram bins, each bin representing a range of time intervals between two pulses, each pulse indicative of a radar frequency and limiting network traffic on a frequency based on a selected bin count.

Radar protection device for wireless networks

The repetitive structure of a preamble signal is exploited to enhance timing synchronization performance and frame start detection performance under adverse channel conditions. Received values are cross-correlated in time against a known noise-free version of the preamble. The presence of peaks in the cross-correlation output indicates presence of a frame. The peak locations provide symbol timing. Further cross-correlation processing and/or non-linear processing can be used to enhance the signal to noise ratio of the peaks.

Preamble aided synchronization

A method and implementation are disclosed for reducing signal distortion. A symbol detector is provided for establishing at least one decision boundary and assigning symbols extracted from a received signal to constellations of symbols separated by the at least one decision boundary. A quality measure implementation is provided for determining an error rate of the output of the symbol detector with respect to the at least one decision boundary. A boundary generator is provided for receiving the error rate and generating parameters that are fed back to the symbol detector to vary the decision boundary positions and shapes, so as to reduce the error rate of the symbol detector.

Method and implementation for adaptive symbol decision mapping

A method, apparatus, and carrier medium carrying instructions to assign frequency channels and transmit powers for a plurality of access points of a wireless network. The method includes, until there are no more access points to which to assign a transmit power and frequency channel, selecting a next current access point, determining for a set of at least one transmit power for a set of at least one frequency channel a measure of the quality of the sub-network formed by the current access point and all already-assigned access points an evaluation metric indicative of the quality of the sub-network, and assigning to the current access point the transmit power and frequency channel that minimizes the measure of the quality of the sub-network.

Radio plan generator

Integral electronic security is provided for a remotely placed network device to reduce the risk of theft, vandalism, or tampering. Sensors monitor the environment surrounding the remotely placed network device. When tampering is detected, a message is sent to a monitoring station. Optionally, the network device can clear its own configuration to prevent the loss of sensitive data.

Integral security apparatus for remotely placed network devices

A multiple element antenna array is disclosed in which a plurality of panels each support one or more antenna elements. One or more of the panels are preferably interlaced, so as to be affixed to a circuit board. The panels are configured so as to affix to the circuit board at a predetermined angle, which is preferably a right angle to the surface of the circuit board. Each antenna element includes a connection point for establishing a circuit board connection. The present multiple element antenna array is preferably incorporated into a wireless device; preferably an access point for a wireless local area network (WLAN). The wireless device further includes a radio transceiver comprising a plurality of circuit elements mounted on the circuit board.
