Telecommunications equipment may require network connectivity. On newer systems, an additional local management interface is provided for proprietary maintenance functions, typically via a shell-based Command Line Interface. This is not available on remote sites with only TDM connections. The invention provides a method of communicating between a management console and remote access equipment via a class 4 telecommunications switch, which comprises establishing an IP connection, establishing a synchronous telecommunications transport connection between the class 5 switch and the remote access equipment, setting up a voice call between the management console and the remote access equipment, passing the voice call over the IP connection as a VOIP call, passing the voice call over the synchronous telecommunications transport connection as a PCM encoded call, and encapsulating an IP data stream in the VOIP and PCM encoded call to establish an end-to-end IP.

The present invention is a switching system interface providing conversion between time-division multiplexed digital signals and packetized digital signals used to bypass a common control and switch matrix of a class 5 digital switch. The switching system interface includes a network interface for terminating a digital transmission facility that is part of a network architecture. A telephone accessory that is connected to a subscriber's telephone line as an extension, and monitors the line for the initiation of a call from any telephone set. The invention detects a call initiation by determining that a telephone set has seized the line without ring voltage being present immediately beforehand. If the first digit dialed by the subscriber is a '1', the invention immediately dials the remainder of a long-distance access code, without the initial '1', followed by a &#x201c;1&#x201d; which signifies a long distance number. This burst of dialed digits takes a short time, after which the subscriber continues to dial the area code and number as normal. The effect for the subscriber is to manually dial a normal long ditance nimber as 1+area code+number, while this invention takes advantage of the fact that long distance access codes begin with &#x201c;1&#x201d; and automatically inserts the desired code.

A method of patterning a metal layer that cleans the residue from a metal etch process without removing a photoresist etch mask. The method is particularly useful for the fabrication of micromirror devices, or other MEMS devices that use photoresist spacer layers. A circuitry (10) is provided for automatically retiming a received synchronous data signal to a local clock. The circuitry (10) includes a first flip-flop (20) operable to register at least one synchronous data signal in response to a receive clock signal and to generate at least one data output signal. An OR gate (26) receives a data latch enable signal and a local clock signal. The local clock signal is frequency coherent with the receive clock signal. The OR gate (26) produces an enable signal. A latch (28) is coupled to the OR gate (26) for receiving the enable signal and in cascading arrangement with the first flip-flop (20). The latch (28) latches the data output signal on the falling edge of the local clock signal when the data latch enable signal is low. The latch (28) holds the latched data output signal as long as the local clock signal and the data latch enable signal are low. When either the local clock signal or the data latch enable signal is high, the latch (28) passes the data output signal. A second flip-flop (30), coupled in cascading arrangement with the latch (28), registers the data output signal passed through the latch (28) in response to the local clock signal. The signal output by the second flip-flop (30) is timed to the local clock signal.

Circuitry for retiming a received data signal

A high speed signal transport system (10) provides data transmission across a balanced channel (14). The balanced channel (14) carries differential signals from the output of a differential transmitter (12). An equalizer (18) compensates for distortion in the balanced channel in order to reduce timing jitter of the signal. The signal is applied to the input of a differential receiver (20) which exploits the precise quantization threshold inherent in differential data to accurately convert the signal to digital data. The differential receiver (20) also employs a known frequency reference along with digital transition detection to rephase the digital data to the local clock. No duty-cycle limitation is placed on the signal carried by the balanced channel (14) and therefore the differential transmitter (12) and differential receiver (20) are not required to encode the signal. Because the signal-to-noise ratio seen by the differential receiver (20) is ample for accurate quantization, the equalizer (18) is optimized for jitter reduction in order to obviate the need for analog retiming circuits.
