An internal combustion engine assembly comprising a fuel reformer, a combustion chamber and a controller. The fuel reformer comprises a first channel and a second channel, a portion of the second channel being adjacent to a portion of the first channel to facilitate heat exchange between the first and second channels. The first channel comprises a catalyst selected to reform ammonia to hydrogen and nitrogen. The first channel is configured to receive ammonia, pass the ammonia over the catalyst and output a first mixture comprising ammonia, hydrogen and nitrogen. The composition of the first mixture depends on a first reformer temperature of the first channel. The combustion chamber is configured to receive the first mixture from the fuel reformer; to receive an oxidant; to combust the first mixture in the oxidant to produce heat and a first product; and to output the first product. The second channel of the fuel reformer is configured to receive the first product.

Ammonia fuelled engine

The present disclosure relates to a heating system for an exhaust gas treatment system. The heating system comprises a first heating element comprising a receiving surface for receiving a reductant fluid and a second heating element, which may surround the first heating element. The second heating element may be a thermochemincal or thermophysical device. In a first mode of operation the second heating element is arranged to receive thermal energy from engine exhaust gas. In second mode of operation the second heating element transfers thermal energy to heat the first heating element.

Heating system for an exhaust gas treatment system

A mixer for an emissions cleaning module is provided. The mixer having an elongate body configured for location within a flowhood and a downstream conduit of an emissions cleaning module. A plurality of apertures are included in the mixer and configured to permit passage of exhaust gas therethrough, to promote mixing, in use of an injected additive and a flow of exhaust gas. An emissions cleaning module including such a mixer is also described.

An emissions cleaning module including a heat shield that comprises a first section and a second section that are coupled together around a flowhood. The heat shield substantially fully envelops all external surfaces of the flowhood.

A flowhood is provided to which an upstream conduit and a downstream conduit of an emissions cleaning module can be connected includes a first section and a second section. The second section includes a first aperture for connection to the upstream conduit and a second aperture for connection to the downstream conduit. The first and second apertures may face substantially in the same direction to permit a compact arrangement. A body of the first section may be shaped to channel gas flow from the first aperture to the second aperture. An emissions cleaning module including such a flowhood is also described.

An engine system includes an electronically controlled compression ignition engine configured to burn diesel fuel to produce an exhaust with a temperature and NOx to soot ratio. An aftertreatment system is fluidly connected to the engine and includes a diesel oxidation catalyst, a reductant supply, and a diesel particulate filter coated with a NOx reduction catalyst but not the diesel oxidation catalyst. A soot load density in the diesel particulate filter is stabilized by oxidizing soot at about a same rate as the compression ignition engine is supplying soot to the aftertreatment system without active regeneration. A NOx reduction reaction is catalyzed by the NOx reduction catalyst on the diesel particulate filter.

An exhaust treatment system associated with a power source is disclosed. The exhaust treatment system may have a filter located to remove particulate matter from an exhaust flow of the power source. The exhaust treatment system may further have a heat source located to elevate the temperature of the exhaust flow. The exhaust treatment system may also have a first sensor and a second sensor. The exhaust treatment system may further have a controller in communication with the heat source, the first sensor, and the second sensor. The controller may be configured to receive a particulate matter load value and a power source load value and activate the heat source when the particulate matter load value is above a particulate matter load threshold value and the power source load value is below a power source load threshold value that is indicative of the exhaust flow being within an exhaust flow range.

Exhaust treatment system implementing regeneration control

In one aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a method for treating exhaust from an engine. The method may comprise generating a first signal indicative of an engine load and generating a second signal indicative of a pollutant level. The method may further comprise recirculating exhaust based on the first signal and injecting a reductant based on the first signal and the second signal.
