A method of securing a fan member to a rotor assembly of an electric machine. The method includes positioning the fan member adjacent the rotor, aligning at least two mounting members extending radially outwardly of the central hub of the rotor assembly with a corresponding at least two mounting elements extending radially inwardly of a hub portion of the fan member, and securing the at least two mounting members to the corresponding at least two mounting elements.

Component for an electric machine

An electric machine component includes a rotor assembly having a body provided with a number of pole members and a central hub. The body includes at least one mounting member projecting radially outwardly of the central hub. A fan member is mounted to the rotor. The fan member includes a hub portion and a number of fan blades projecting radially outwardly from the hub portion. The fan member includes at least one mounting element extending radially outwardly of the hub portion. The at least one mounting element is configured and disposed to engage with the at least one mounting member to radially and axially constrain the fan member to the rotor.

A rotor arrangement for an electric machine comprises a rotor shaft and a rotor segment coupled to the rotor shaft. The rotor segment includes a main body and a collar integral with the main body. The collar includes an outer peripheral groove adjacent to the main body portion of the rotor segment. The rotor arrangement further includes a cooling fan that has a center opening defined by an inner perimeter. The center opening of the fan is configured to slidably engage the collar and is adjustable between an insertion diameter and a locking diameter. When the center opening is at the locking diameter, at least a portion of the inner perimeter of the fan extends into the outer peripheral groove in the collar such that the fan is retained on the rotor segment.

Method and apparatus for fastening cooling fans to electro-mechanical machines

An internal cooling fan assembly for use with a claw-pole segment of a rotor assembly is provided that maximizes air flow while providing a reduced sound signature. The fan assembly includes a base portion that contacts the claw-pole segment when the fan assembly is mounted to the claw-pole segment. The fan assembly also includes a number of blades extending from the base portion such that the blades project outward from a plane normal to the rotor. The plurality of blades have a geometry that aligns with roots of the claw-pole segment. In addition, a first blade of the number of blades is of a first configuration and a second blade of the number of blades is of a second configuration different from the first configuration.

Internal cooling fan with a non-repeating blade configuration

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for fastening internal cooling fans to claw-pole segments are provided. A claw-pole segment suitable for use in a rotor of an electro-mechanical machine is formed. The claw-pole segment may include a base portion, at least one claw pole projecting axially from the base in a first direction, and at least one protrusion projecting axially from the base in a second direction opposite the first direction. A fan assembly that attaches to the claw-pole segment is also formed. The fan assembly may include at least one opening for receiving the at least one protrusion, and may be formed with varying configurations to affect the frequency response of the fan. The portion of the at least one protrusion extends through and beyond the opening of the fan assembly when the fan assembly is mounted on the claw-pole segment and expands in response to an application of an axial load, to secure the fan assembly to the claw-pole segment.

Systems and methods for fastening internal cooling fans to claw-pole electro-mechanical machines

A bearing assembly includes a bearing housing; a rotatable shaft extending through the bearing housing; a bearing having an outer race and an inner race with a bearing seal therebetween, the outer race operably coupled to the bearing housing and the inner race operably coupled to the rotatable shaft; and a slinger operably coupled to an outside edge defining the inner race and rotatable therewith while an external periphery defining the slinger is disposed within a groove configured in the housing, wherein the slinger protects the bearing from contamination from the elements while freely spinning absent contact with the housing, the outer race, and the bearing seal.

Method and apparatus for contamination protection for bearing assembly

An electronic package for an electrical machine preferably a rotary current generator includes a slip ring end (SRE) frame defining one end of a housing configured for mounting a rotor therein so as to be rotatable; a plurality of negative diodes dispersed in an angular fashion in the SRE frame acting as a negative heat sink; a plurality of positive diodes mounted on a separate electrically conductive plate located above a location of the plurality of negative diodes, the plate being configured as a positive heat sink having corresponding holes such that leads extending from each negative diode protrude directly therethrough and openings formed in the positive heat sink to engage a body of each positive diode; and a non-conductive separator fitted over a series of bosses that space the positive heat sink above a top surface defining the negative heat sink, the separator configured to electrically insulate the positive heat sink and negative heat sink from one another, wherein waste heat from the positive and negative heats sinks is to be carried off via vents configured in each and radially outwardly across surfaces defining each.
