A computer-implemented method for building a software application is disclosed. The method includes: generating a plurality of application resources; creating a plurality of tags; applying one of the tags on each of the plurality of application resources; grouping the application resources by their tags to form at least two asset packs, each identifiable by at least one tag shared by all application resources in the asset pack; and creating an asset pack manifest comprising a location of each of the asset packs and an order in which the asset packs are to be downloaded.

Techniques are disclosed for estimating a source resolution of image data presented to a system. According to these techniques, input image data may be converted to a domain of frequency coefficients. Each coefficient may represent content of the input image along a respective pair of frequencies extending in two dimensions. For each set of frequency coefficients having a common frequency in one of the dimensions, zero crossings of coefficient values may be detected. The zero crossings may be counted at each frequency position in the second dimension. An estimate of the input image's source resolution may be estimated from a comparison of the zero crossings. For video, this process may be performed across images of an input video sequences.

Generic media covers can be generated for digital media items submitted by publishers without a personalized media cover. A generic media cover can be generated for a media item by hashing a unique identifier of the media item that remains consistent throughout the life cycle of the media item. Bytes of the hashed value can be translated into graphic parameters which are used to generate the generic graphic. The graphic parameters can be attached to the generic graphic, thus allowing a user to regenerate the generic graphic at a desired resolution at a later point in time. Also disclosed are techniques for ensuring that generic media covers for a bundle of media items appear substantially similar.

A method and an apparatus for an application thinning mechanism are described. The thinning mechanism can select a subset of components from a universal application to assemble an application variant to be distributed and installed to a specific type of devices. The universal application may include every component, such as asset, resource or executable, built/developed for targeted device attributes to install one common application to multiple devices. For example, the thinning mechanism can use a trait vector associated with a type of devices to iterate through the components and identify assets to be included or packaged into in each target device specific application or application variant.

Methods and systems are disclosed that allow automated pre-qualification and qualification of an application. An application description can be generated for an application submitted by a developer, the application description can be automatically examined to determine whether the application complies with rules or guidelines (e.g., policies) of a platform. If the application complies with the rules or guidelines, the application can be pre-qualified and submitted for approval and distribution. If the application does not comply with the rules or guidelines, the application developer can be notified of the errors in the application and the developer can be prevented from uploading the application for approval and distribution.

According to some embodiments, techniques are described herein to assist a publisher to create fixed layout pages of an electronic publication. The techniques are useful for creating cookbooks, travel books, photography books, children's books, other 'illustrated books', or any other electronic publication where a fixed layout for at least some of the pages of the electronic publication is desirable. With the techniques, the publisher may embed fonts, select particular fonts and font sizes, assign visual content to fixed layout pages, and precisely position visual content at fixed positions on fixed layout pages. A scaling mechanism for an electronic reader device is also disclosed for scaling fixed layout pages to fit the size of a display screen of the reader device while maintaining the aspect ratio and assignment of visual content to fixed layout pages specified by the publisher.

Systems, methods and computer program products are disclosed for managing digital media for an artist or author in an online digital media store using an automated data feed with a unique data structure or a web service having a simple and intuitive user interface. In some implementations, a webpage is provided by the web service that allows a user to request access to manage an artist or author. Upon such request, a rules-based vetting process is employed by the online digital media store for determining the eligibility of the user to manage the digital media of the artist or author.

A system and method for submission of digital assets to a digital asset submission system are disclosed. The digital asset submission system can manage submissions of digital assets to a network-based distribution system.
