This invention relates to the use of catechol or substituted catechol half esters of beta-haloethylphosphonic acid to inhibit head formation in lettuce. Increased pigmentation of the head leaves is achieved as a result of the application.

Method for inhibition of head formation in lettuce

To improve the recognition of defective electric motors, the present invention proposes a test apparatus and method comprising an accelerometer mounted on a member rotating with the output shaft of the motor under test. The accelerometer measures the acceleration in the direction of rotation. A communication path between the accelerometer and an electronic processor is provided to assign detected disturbances to certain known defect modes which have been obtained from sample defect motors. The communication path may comprise a slip ring contact. The rotating accelerometer can detect disturbances caused by gear train defects that cannot be discovered by an accelerometer mounted on the motor housing in the known way.

Apparatus and method for testing electric motors

An over the load viewing system for lift trucks and the like, includes a first mirror fixed in position in the line of sight of the vehicle operator with a second mirror pivotally mounted on arms extending above the vehicle and moveable on the arms between a viewing position and retractable to a non-viewing position with latch means for latching the second mirror assembly in the viewing position and uni-directional drive means for rotating the mirror to the viewing position.

A carton stacking guide assembly for guiding the stacking of cartons in tiers, such as on pallets, includes elongated hinge bars extending parallel along opposite sides of a support platform, such as the load supporting platform of a cargo vehicle, with detachable first and second guide panels connected together at right angles to each other and hingedly connected to the guide bar for extending vertically from the support platform for guiding the stacking of cartons at the corners of a stack. The guide panels are open to reduce the wind resistance thereof and includes an elongated handle connected to the lower end of one of the panels a flexible tension member detachable connected at one end of the panel spaced upward from the hinge axis thereof and at the other end to the elongated handle spaced outward from the connection of the handle to the panel for assisting in tilting the guide assembly between a vertical guiding position and a horizontally extending nonguiding position.

Apparatus for in field unitizing of containers

A passively-actuated visual warning reflector device for providing a 'flashing', oscillating, or fluctuating visual signal, the invention is readily adapted to be mounted to a moving vehicle, particularly the side of a train car, to warn of the presence of the vehicle at route intersections and crossings. The present reflector device is comprised of a reflective or luminous substrate member attached to a surface of either a vehicle or a stationary structure, an apertured disk member being mounted in superimposed relation to the reflective member for swinging movement relative thereto, thereby partially obscuring varying portions of the reflective member on movement of the disk member to provide the effect of an 'on-off' light signal. The disk member is provided with circumferential flanges which catch air currents and cause the disk member to swing relative to the reflective member.

Rail car safety reflector

A method and apparatus for distributing irrigation water and the like around agricultural plants. The apparatus includes a semi-permanent, semi-looped elastic distributing conduit having a closed end and an open end, with a plurality of spray nozzles in the upper surface of the conduit for distributing liquid outward from the plant in fan-like overlapping patterns. The apparatus becomes a semi-permanent installation, and the method includes the placing of such a semi-looped distributor close in about a plant and arranging the spray patterns to have a substantially fan-like configuration extending outward from the plant and overlapping.
