The personal wearable speaker system includes a garment having a plurality of substantially hollow tubular ducts formed from a substantially flexible material designed to promote superior sound wave flow and anti-collapse (pinch) functionality, and a plurality of pairs of sound transducers. The plurality of ducts each have a first end and a second end which are substantially enclosed by the garment. Each of the ducts defines a chamber within. The ducts each have a length, a width, and a height which is perpendicular to both the length and the width, and preferably have a width to height ratio of three to one or less. Alternately, the ducts may be substantially flat and have an undulating front surface. Sound transducers are adapted to fit at least partially within the chambers of the ducts. Some of the sound transducers are adapted to project sound toward an ear of a wearer. Other transducers are adapted to project soundwaves toward a body of the wearer. Securing rings attached to the ducts adjacent the ends of the ducts are used to facilitate the connection between the ends of the ducts and the jacket. Pockets adapted to receive a player may be provided. Wires running from the sound transducers connect the sound transducers to the player. The garment may be a coat, jacket, shirt, blouse, vest, or backpack. Additionally, the ducts may be provided with sound ports.

A directional speaker system includes an enclosure having an inner surface, an outer surface, an open end, and a closed end, a speaker driver directed toward the open end and mounted near the closed end of the enclosure, an in-line phase plug mounted in front of the speaker driver for manipulating the wavefront of sound waves produced by the speaker driver, and a preferably frustoconical shaped wave guide provided between the speaker driver and the open end of the speaker enclosure. A preferably annular space is provided between the enclosure and the wave guide and a plurality of openings are provided between the enclosure at the open end of the enclosure. Out-of-phase sound waves produced by the speaker driver travel into the space and exit the speaker system through the openings.

Directional horn speaker system

An open back speaker module includes a speaker mounting element having a front face defining at least one sound transducer opening and a rim provided with a first set of electrical contacts, and at least one sound transducer for creating sound waves mounted to the sound transducer opening of the speaker mounting element. The open back speaker module is couplable to a structural element such that the speaker module and the structural element at least partially define a chamber behind the sound transducer. A receptacle or a gasket, couplable to the structural element and adapted to engage or be engaged by the speaker mounting element, may also be provided to help secure the open back speaker module to the structural element. The speaker module, receptacle, and the gasket are preferably flexible such that they may conform to any shaped of structural element. However, the speaker module and/or the receptacle may instead be rigidly formed and pre-shaped to conform to the shape of a specific structural element. Additionally, the front of the speaker mounting element may be provided with a plurality of undulations which increase flexibility and improve the acoustics of the speaker.

A speaker assembly is provided including a rigid front speaker mounting element defining at least one speaker mounting opening, at least one speaker driver coupled to the at least one speaker mounting opening of the speaker mounting element, at least one flexible bladder at least partially forming the sides and rear of the enclosure and coupled to the speaker mounting element, and a valve coupled to the flexible bladder. The flexible bladder has a first wall portion and a second wall portion defining a substantially air-tight interior space therebetween and may take any desired shape when inflated. Together, the speaker mounting element and the bladder form at least one interior chamber at least partially surrounding the speaker driver. The valve, which provides a substantially air-tight seal when closed, is in fluid communication with the interior space of the flexible bladder and can be used for inflation and deflation of the bladder. The bladder is inflatable by providing either pressurized gas or expandable foam within the interior space. Alternately, the bladder may be formed as a plurality of independently inflatable cells, or may be evacuatably-formed from a material having shape retaining memory properties. After use, the bladder enclosure may be removed from the speaker mounting element, and deflated for reuse, or disposed of.

Inflatable speaker assembly

A low profile speaker enclosure for mounting on a structure including a speaker housing and an electroacoustical transducer is disclosed. The speaker housing has a front face and a back each defining a length and a width, and a plurality of sides substantially separating the front face and the back and defining a thickness of the speaker housing. In the preferred embodiment, the front face and the back are substantially parallel. The front face, the back, and the plurality of sides of the speaker housing substantially define a chamber. The front face defines a speaker aperture opening into the chamber. The electroacoustical transducer is mounted in the speaker aperture. At least one of the sides defines a side aperture. The back of the low profile speaker enclosure defines a channel and defines a back aperture providing an opening between the channel and the chamber. The side aperture is also defined by the channel. The structure at least partially encloses the channel and provides a pathway between the chamber and an exterior environment for increased acoustic performance.

Low profile speaker enclosure

A nestable speaker assembly includes a plurality of speaker mounting elements, at least one speaker driver coupled to each of the speaker mounting elements, and a plurality of open-front enclosures coupled to the speaker mounting elements. The open-front enclosures have a first end and a second end and define cavities therebetween. The open-front enclosures taper from said first end to said second end. The first ends of the open-front enclosures substantially define openings into said cavities. When assembled, the speaker mounting element and the open-front enclosure substantially enclose the opening into the cavity. When disassembled, one of the plurality of open-front enclosures substantially nests within a cavity of another of the plurality of open-front enclosures. A plurality of speaker mounting elements containing speaker drivers may be stored within the cavity of the last of the plurality of open-front enclosures. According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the speaker mounting elements detachably coupled in a front to rear relation. Alternately or additionally, a pair of caps adapted to fit over the fronts and rears of the speaker mounting elements may be provided. Alternately, stacking structures defining channels and adapted to secure opposing sides of the speaker mounting elements which maintain them a distance apart in a front to back relation may be used.

Nesting speaker assembly

A sound lens speaker system includes a concave sound lens, two upper frequency drivers, and a lower mid/low frequency driver. The mid/low frequency driver is oriented to fire sound waves towards the apex of the sound lens. The two high frequency drivers are positioned off axis between the mid/low frequency driver and the apex of the sound lens, and are preferably angled toward the apex of the sound lens. Sound waves from the high frequency drivers and mid/low driver are reflected by the sound lens into a downward substantially focused beam of full frequency spectrum sound. In a preferred embodiment, the sound lens has an upper parabolic portion and a coaxial lower parabolic portion defined by different parabolic equations and each having a respective focus. The high frequency drivers are preferably located along an arc through the upper focus and the mid/low frequency driver is substantially vertically aligned with the lower focus.
