A blast tube includes three portions and three diaphragms. The first portion has a first length and a first cross section. The second portion has a second length and a second cross section. The third portion has a third length and a third cross section. The first diaphragm is disposed between the second portion and the third portion and switches from a closed state to an open state at a first time. The second diaphragm switches from a closed state to an open state at a second time after the first time. The third diaphragm is disposed between the first portion and the second portion and switches from a closed state to an open state at a third time after the second time. The third portion is disposed between the first diaphragm and the second diaphragm.

System and method for simulating primary and secondary blast

A method and device are provided for manipulating high-speed flows without moving aerodynamic structures. More particularly, a flow control actuator device is provided that is capable of producing a pulsating synthetic jet with high exhaust velocities for manipulating high-speed flows without moving aerodynamic structures. The high exhaust velocities of the actuator device may reach sonic levels of Mach 1 or greater. In one embodiment, the device may be constructed as an array of devices. In such an embodiment, each individual device is preferably reduced to a very small size. In such an embodiment, each individual device can then be fired in temporal patterns to create high-speed synthetic jets of air extending above the surface of the each device.

Solid state supersonic flow actuator and method of use

A damping gyrometer comprised of at least two and preferably four rotating paddles attached to a common central elevated low-friction pivot point via rising radial arms. A stand with a concave glass element provides a low-friction support as a pivot point seat for the pivot point. All elements of the apparatus are non-conductive. Once set into motion, the only force acting on the gyrometer are the pivot point friction and the damping effects of the medium in which it spins. A laser beam and photodetector (or alternatively a laser displacement sensor), along with customized software algorithms are used to measure the rotational rate and, hence, the deceleration rate of the apparatus which can then be used to determine properties of the medium in which it spins, including changes in density, pressure, and temperature. The measurement can also be directly related to the electron density in the case of weakly ionized gases.
