Stabilizer for a piece of furniture, such as a dresser or television, includes an elongate preferably rigid portion having opposed ends, two plates each having an inner major surface and an outer planar surface on a side opposite the inner major surface, a respective hinge that pivotally connects each end of the elongate portion to the inner major surface of a respective plate, and attachment structure arranged at least partly on the outer planar surface of each plate for attaching the plate to the piece of furniture or to a vertical support surface behind the piece of furniture. When the stabilizer is attached to the piece of furniture at a location above the location at which the stabilizer is attached to the vertical support surface and the stabilizer is in a vertical orientation, the stabilizer provides resistance to tipping of the piece of furniture away from the vertical support surface.

Elongate stabilizers for preventing furniture from tipping

Stabilizer for a piece of furniture, such as a dresser or television, includes an elongate portion, a top flap or plate flexibly connected at an upper end of the rigid portion, and a bottom flap or plate flexibly connected at a lower end of the rigid portion. An outer planar surface of the top plate is attached to the piece of furniture while an outer planar surface of the bottom plate is attached to a vertical support surface behind the piece of furniture. When the stabilizer is attached to the piece of furniture at a location above the location at which the stabilizer is attached to the vertical support surface and the stabilizer is in a vertical orientation, the stabilizer provides resistance to tipping of the piece of furniture away from the vertical support surface.

Stabilizer that provides tip resistance to a piece of furniture against a wall includes a first plate, a second plate, and a limited expansion assembly between inner sides of the first and second plates and having a collapsed state providing the stabilizer with its smallest thickness between outer sides of the first and second plates and a fully expanded state in which the stabilizer has its largest thickness between outer sides of the first and second plates. When the first plate is attached to the wall and the second plate is attached to the piece of furniture, movement of the piece of furniture away from the wall is prevented once the expansion assembly has attained its fully expanded state.

Stabilizers for preventing furniture from tipping

Dresser includes a frame having a front, a drawer slidable into and out of the frame, and a drawer retention mechanism between each side wall of the drawer and the frame alongside the side wall. The retention mechanism includes a track on the side wall defined between upper and lower parts, and a rail on the drawer movable in the track. A first stop is on the upper part and a second stop is on the drawer. The first and second stops are positioned to cause contact of a front surface of the second stop and rear surface of the first stop to prevent sliding of the drawer out of the frame and such that an angled rear surface of the second stop comes into contact with and slides over an angled front surface of the first stop during insertion of the drawer.

Drawer retention mechanisms for furniture

Piece of furniture, such as a dresser, includes a frame having a front facing surface and a rear facing surface, rectangular drawers each insertable into and partly removable from the frame and at least one of which includes a vertically oriented front panel, rectangular side panels, a horizontal lower panel and a vertically oriented rear panel, and front, non-adjustable supports and rear, non-adjustable supports for supporting the frame on a horizontal surface. The rear supports have a lower height than the front supports. As such, a distance between a lowermost drawer and a rear of the frame is less than a distance between the lowermost drawer and a front of the frame when the lowermost drawer is fully inserted into the frame.

Furniture having anti-tipping construction

Dresser includes a frame having a wall section forming a rear wall, and an upper panel that covers an accessible space. A bracket is designed for attachment to a vertical support, a first connector is attached to the bracket, a second connector is attached to the frame in a position to be in the space and removably engages with the first connector when present in the space under the upper panel. The first and/or second connector is/are length adjustable relative to its supporting structure, i.e., relative to the bracket in the case of the first connector or relative to the frame in the case of the second connector to enable a distance between the frame and the vertical support to be reduced. A reduction in distance between the frame and the vertical support and engagement between the first and second connectors prevents tipping of the piece of furniture.

Stabilizer for a television includes an elongate, rigid portion, a top flap flexibly connected at an upper end of the rigid portion for example by an integral hinge, and a bottom flap flexibly connected at a lower end of the rigid portion for example by an integral hinge. The top flap is attached to a TV by attachment structure and the bottom flap is attached by attachment structure to a support surface to thereby provide a rigid link between the support surface and the TV which prevents the TV from tipping over.

Dresser includes a frame having a wall section forming at least part of a rear wall, and an upper panel that covers an accessible space. A bracket is attached to a vertical support, a first connector is attached to the bracket, a second connector is attached to the frame in a position to be in the space and removably engages with the first connector when present in the space under the upper panel. The first and/or second connector is length adjustable relative to its supporting structure, i.e., relative to the bracket in the case of the first connector or relative to the frame in the case of the second connector to enable a distance between the frame and the vertical support to be reduced. Bag trapping apparatus includes a housing, a cord attached to the housing for enabling the housing to be suspended in a position elevated from an underlying horizontal surface, trapping structure on the housing for removably fixing an open upper end of a bag to the housing, and a slotted membrane through which the bag passes when the open upper end of the bag is trapped by the trapping structure. A bottom closed end of the bag is below the membrane so that waste is insertable into the bag through the membrane. The membrane provides odor control and a barrier. If a drawstring bag is used, a raised ridge may be provided on the housing to secure the drawstring.

Furniture anti-tipping mechanism includes an L-shaped boot having a first portion and a second portion shorter than the first portion and having an upwardly extending position at an angle (less than 180&#xb0;) to the first portion. A side rail extends upward from a lateral edge of the first portion. The first portion is attached to a bottom surface of the furniture by a screw or bolt which fits through a respective aperture in the first portion or by adhesive on an upper surface of the first planar portion in a position to contact a bottom surface of the furniture. The second portion is attached to a rear surface of the furniture by a screw or bolt which fits through a respective aperture in the second portion or by adhesive on an inner surface of the second planar portion in a position to contact the rear surface of the furniture.

Furniture with anti-tipping characteristics

A piece of furniture and an anti-tipping mechanism include a frame having a front and a rear, at least one drawer slidable through the front of the frame into and partly out of the frame, and one or more L-shaped boots each having a first elongate planar portion and a second planar portion shorter than the first planar portion with the second planar portion having a position at an angle to the first planar portion. The second planar portion is attached to a rear surface of the frame to be alongside and in contact therewith. The first planar portion is situated below the front and rear of the frame and extends forward of the front of the frame when the second planar portion is attached to the rear surface of the frame to aid in preventing tipping of the piece of furniture.
