A fastener clinching press includes a frame that supports a die having a hole that cooperates with the fastener to produce a slug from the workpiece. A ram has a head assembly that engages the fastener. A first sensor determines a ram position relative to the die. A pin is slidably supported within the head assembly and extends out of the head assembly to a tip that locates a fastener relative to the die. The pin is movable between multiple pin positions including a slug-eject position. A second sensor is arranged in the head assembly and is operatively connected to the pin. The sensor monitors the multiple pin positions that relate to a pin travel distance signature. A controller is in communication with the first and second sensors and determines an outcome of the clinching operation based upon the ram position and the pin travel distance signature.

A pressure cylinder includes a working cylinder and an intensification cylinder that is divided by a separator block. A working piston is arranged in the working cylinder and connected to a working rod that extends to an end portion. An intensification piston and an intensification rod are arranged in the intensification cylinder. A pump is configured to provide a pressurized hydraulic fluid to the pressure cylinder. A fluid reservoir is configured to supply a hydraulic fluid to the pump. A first valve is configured to selectively regulate hydraulic fluid flow between the pressure cylinder and the fluid reservoir and the pump. A second valve is configured to selectively regulate fluid flow between a first valve and the advance intensification chamber. A controller is in communication with the first valve and the second valve. The controller is configured to coordinate movement of the working piston and the intensification piston.

A welding station includes a welding gun that includes first and second caps. The welding gun is movable between a working position and a maintenance position. The working position corresponds to a welding operation on at least one workpiece. A maintenance tool assembly is configured to cooperate with the first and second caps in the maintenance position. The maintenance tool assembly includes a cap extractor, a cap dispenser and a cap dresser. The cap extractor is configured to remove the first and second caps from the welding gun. The cap dispenser is configured to provide a new cap to the welding gun for installation. The cap dresser is configured to shape the cap face. The maintenance tool assembly includes a lift actuator. A translate actuator is respectively configured to move the maintenance tool assembly in the lift and translate directions with respect to the welding gun.

Integrated electrode maintenance for robotic welding cell

A method of feeding a fastener in a machine for installation onto a workpiece, the method includes a) feeding a fastener into a block having channel with a stop against which the fastener abuts in a fastener loading position, the channel is at least partially covered by a flexible retainer plate that captures the fastener within the channel, b) moving the block relative to a pin to engage the fastener with the pin, the pin has a longitudinal pin axis, c) forcing the fastener into the retainer plate in a direction of the longitudinal pin axis to deflect the retainer plate away from the channel and disengage the fastener from the stop, d) retracting the block relative to the pin to support the fastener on the pin clear of the block, and e) securing the fastener to the workpiece.

A cap extractor for a welding gun includes a housing, a pair of springs, and first and second arms that are arranged between the springs. Each of the first and second arms have teeth that are configured to engage a welding cap. The first and second arms are configured to move relative to the housing in first and second directions that are transverse to one another by deflecting the springs.

A cap dispenser for a welding gun includes a sleeve that slidably receives a drawer that is configured to house a column of weld caps. The cap dispenser also includes a spring that cooperates with a slide block that is arranged in the drawer. The spring urges the slide block toward an aperture in the drawer that is configured to receive a welding gun electrode.
