Aspects of the invention are directed to coil positioning apparatuses, systems, and methods of employing the same. One portable head coil apparatus is provided for use with a magnetic resonance imaging system. The portable head coil apparatus includes a base having at least one coil array comprising at least two coil elements. The base is positionable relative to the patients head and has a receiving portion defining a receiving surface positionable adjacent the patient positioning device. The portable head coil apparatus includes an extension movable relative to the base and having at least one coil array comprising at least two coil elements. The extension defines an inner surface having a curvature the degree of which is greater than that of the receiving surface of the base. The inner surface of the extension and the receiving surface of the base together at least partially define an imaging region therebetween.

Coil positioning apparatuses, systems, and methods thereof

Systems for immobilizing a patient are disclosed. The system includes at least one preform formed from a low melting temperature thermoplastic, the preform being configured to be formed to the anatomy of the patient, at least one frame coupled to the at least one preform, and at least one support configured to support the anatomy of the patient. The system also includes at least one lock mechanism coupled to at least one of the frame and the support and configured to couple the at least one frame to the at least one support, and at least one adjuster mechanism coupled to at least one of the at least one frame and the at least one support and configured to selectively adjust a distance between the at least one frame and the at least one support while the at least one frame is coupled to the at least one support.

Adjustable immobilizer apparatus and method for immobilizing a patient

Systems for immobilizing a patient are disclosed. The system includes at least one preform formed from a low melting temperature thermoplastic, so that the preform may be formed to the anatomy of the patient, at least one frame coupled to the at least one preform, and at least one support to support the anatomy of the patient. The system also includes at least one lock mechanism coupled to at least one of the frame and the support in order to couple the at least one frame to the at least one support, and at least one adjuster mechanism coupled to at least one of the at least one frame and the at least one support in order to selectively adjust a distance between the at least one frame and the at least one support while the at least one frame is coupled to the at least one support.

A patient transfer device includes a patient support surface having a top surface adapted for positioning a patient thereon and a bottom surface defining one or more areas having a concave curvature for passage of air flow therethrough. Passage of the air flow along the one or more areas having a concave curvature provides an air bearing below at least a portion of the bottom surface. Exemplary patient transfer systems and methods of moving a patient are also provided.

Patient transfer device and associated systems and methods

A patient transfer system is provided to move a patient between modalities. The system includes a deploying modality having a top surface configured to support the patient; a patient transfer support positionable on the top surface of the deploying modality, the patient transfer support also being configured for movement from the top surface of the deploying modality to a top surface of the receiving modality; a patient transfer support locating feature positionable to limit movement of the patient transfer support relative to the top surface of the receiving modality; and a keying feature positionable to engage at least one of a surface associated with the receiving modality or a surface of the patient transfer support, the keying feature being configured to inhibit movement of the patient transfer support in at least one direction relative to the top surface of the receiving modality. The patient transfer support locating feature limits the range of movement of the patient transfer support relative to the top surface of the receiving modality when the patient transfer support is moved from the top surface of the deploying modality to the top surface of the receiving modality.

The present invention provides a low friction device for transferring patients from one surface to another. This system allows a patient to be immobilized on one supporting surface. The immobilized patient can then be transferred laterally onto the target modality using an air bearing that is thin, homogeneously radiolucent and compatible with a variety of diagnostic imaging and treatment modalities.

Advantageous patient transport systems, and related methods of use, are provided. More particularly, the present disclosure provides advantageous modular patient transport systems that are configured to transport patients from one surface to another for various applications (e.g., diagnostic imaging and/or radiation therapy applications). The patient transport systems/assemblies of the present disclosure are configured and dimensioned to be utilized with a wide variety of imaging and/or treatment modalities/environments. The target modality assemblies/surfaces that the patient may be transported to and/or from via the improved patient transport systems/assemblies of the present disclosure include many different types of equipment/surfaces. In certain embodiments, when the transfer assembly is moved to the target modality assembly, a safety member of the transfer assembly engages with a safety member catch of the target modality assembly to allow a user to safely, accurately and repeatably releasably mount the transfer assembly to the target modality assembly.

Modular patient transport system

A radiation therapy patient couch top which provides optimal fields of treatment in a high-energy radiation therapy environment. In addition, the patient couch top provides superior imaging qualities when used in a diagnostic imaging x-ray environment. All metal is eliminated from the treatment/imaging area. This ensures that no metal will be in the way of the radiation treatment beam and that no artifacting will occur when used with diagnostic imaging techniques such as Computed Tomography. By employing moveable fiber reinforced support beams, the main patient support structure can be positioned so that a minimum of electron generation will occur through Compton scattering. By allowing for a removable insert, the top patient surface can be optimized for treatment, diagnostic imaging or the addition of other useful features. The novel design of these inserts allows the tip end of the beams to be free from any cross members, further improving the imaging and treatment qualities of the resulting patient couch top. Further, a CT simulator insert is provided which provides the same dosimetric properties for the patient couchtop and devices during patient treatment planning.

Radiation therapy patient couch top compatible with diagnostic imaging

The present invention provides a patient positioning device, which enables the latest advances in Stereotactic Radiation Therapy. The geometry, which incorporates at least one window or lateral cut-out, is designed to allow clear treatment access to the patient during non-coplanar treatment regimes through the use of windows or lateral cut-outs. A laterally positionable diaphragm compression device allows the full use of the geometry. The development of a stand-alone device and a couch top insert device allows for a maximum number of protocol methods while minimizing the skin surface radiation dose to the patient.
