A process for insulating the void in a thermal distance piece in a low-temperature or cryogenic storage tank uses a vacuum source to draw insulation into the TDP. Two remotely spaced openings to the void are provided. A strainer is temporarily mounted in one of the openings. The other opening is connected to a suction wand. The wand has an inner cylinder that extends through an outer cylinder and projects outwardly from a proximal end of the outer cylinder. Distal air vents are provided on the inner cylinder, near a distal cap that connects distal ends of the cylinders. Proximal air vents are provided on a proximal cap that connects a portion of the inner cylinder to a proximal end of the outer cylinder. The distal end of the wand is inserted into a container of insulation.

A method of providing a suspended ceiling in a storage tank involves building a deck on the floor of the storage tank and raising it into place by using an external hoist mechanism. The hoist mechanism is connected to the deck by cutting holes in the roof of the tank and feeding cables through the holes. The cables are attached to a series of extenders, such as metal bars, that are fixed to lift points on the deck. The extenders are long enough so that, once the ceiling is raised to its final position, portions of the extenders project into the holes in the roof. The ceiling is then fixed in position by securing the extenders to the roof. After the ceiling is secured in position, the holes in the roof are sealed.

Method for installing a suspended ceiling in a storage tank

Apparatus and method for depositing a bed of polymeric insulating foam on a horizontal or sloped surface. The apparatus rolls on the surface being insulated and while it moves forward, lateral bands of insulating foam are sequentially and rapidly deposited by spraying a foamable liquid from a nozzle mounted on a carriage reciprocally moving on a track on the apparatus.

Apparatus for removable attachment to a rigid surface for vibrating the same comprising a vacuum plate having a face with an elastomeric gasket around the face periphery and contactable with said rigid surface; a vibrator mount on the vacuum plate; a vibrator joined to the vibrator mount; and said elastomeric gasket projecting sufficiently forward from the vibrator mount and the vacuum plate to prevent the vibrator mount and the vacuum plate from touching the rigid surface when attached thereto so that all vibrations developed by the vibrator are transmitted to the rigid surface through the elastomeric gasket and the pressure waves in the vacuum plate.
