A method of operating an elevator system including: receiving an evacuation call from a first evacuation floor; moving an elevator car to the first evacuation floor; opening doors of the elevator car when the elevator car arrives at the first evacuation floor; monitoring, using a sensor system, a remaining capacity of the elevator car; and closing the doors of the elevator car when at least one of a first selected period of time has passed and the remaining capacity is equal to a selected remaining capacity.

The method further includes establishing the remote connection in response to determining that the local connection is not established between the elevator control subsystem () and the service equipment (). The method additionally includes sending a time since the service equipment () was last active and providing an option to complete the remote connection in response to determining that the local connection is established, the elevator control subsystem () is operating in a first mode of operation, and a configurable local activity timeout period has not expired.

During elevator modernization, a cross-dispatching system receives hall calls and assigns each hall call to either a group of existing elevator car controllers or a group of new elevator car controllers. The cross-dispatching system creates an inter group relative system response (iRSR) value for the hall call for both the existing group of elevators and the new group of elevators, based upon information from each group such as car location, in-service status, load, and direction. If the group assigned the hall call does not answer the call within a redispatch time period, the cross-dispatching system again calculates the iRSR for each group and reassigns the hall call.

An elevator system for up-peak servicing of a building having a dual lobby. The system includes a controller having an electronic processor coupled to a memory; a plurality of elevator cars controllably connected to the controller, a dual lobby routine stored within the memory, the dual lobby routine includes instructions for dispatching at least one of the elevator cars to a lower lobby during up-peak, indicating a sector assigned to the car, nudging (if needed) the car if a lower lobby time-out is exceeded, dispatching the car to the upper lobby if a load weight threshold is not exceeded, and then indicating the sector assigned to the car while the car is located at the upper lobby.

A system and method for determining the availability of an elevator car for response to hall calls includes a plurality of infrared sensors disposed to monitor the presence of an object within an elevator car. The cross-sectional area occupied by an object, or objects, within an elevator car is determined by the number of sensors generating output signals based upon reflections of transmitted radiation from such an object. The system monitors the cross-sectional area availability of the elevator car and categorizes the car as to its availability for responding to a hall call.

System and method for determining the availability of an elevator car

A method and apparatus for dispatching elevator cars to hall calls in a system where there are two types of elevator controllers (12, 14) in operation, one (12) of which operates using relay logic. The calls are stored in a relay logic memory common to both elevator controllers (12, 14). A first controller reads the call information directly from the memory (18); the second controller reads the memory through a cross cancellation device (10) which multiplexes the information from the memory so that the calls are provided on a serial link (32) to the second controller (14). The second controller (14) is programmed to respond to calls which the first controller (12) has not answered.

The data processor (OCSS) 35 of an elevator car that can be transferred from a group 38 of elevators (a swing car) is switched out of a ring of similar data processors 31-34 into another ring of data processors 36, 37 which comprise a separate group 39 (FIG. 2 ). Or, the processor 35 can be swung from the group 38 into operation by itself in the simplex mode (FIGS. 3 and 4) when connected (66) to a separate hall call button and enunciator lantern riser 56.
