Periodontic compositions in gel or foam form for treating gum diseases or used in the extraction of teeth, which are alcohol free. The composition is a mixture of a tertiary amine oxide and an antimicrobial betaine compound. The composition is useful for treating gum disease and after the extraction of teeth.

The invention relates to a process for increasing the dyeability of textile fibers and fabrics without the need to use a salt in the dyebath. The dyeing is performed on fibers or fabrics which have been treated with sodium hydroxide and an epoxy ammonium salt of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R,R',R', and R'' are alkyl radicals having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and X.sup.- is an anionic group selected from the group consisting of sulfate, sulfonate and halide.

Method for salt-free dyeing

The invention relates to a process for increasing the dyeability of textile fibers and fabrics without the need to use a salt in the dyebath. The dyeing is performed on fibers or fabrics which have been treated with potassium hydroxide and an epoxy ammonium salt of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R, R', R', and R'' are alkyl radicals having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and X.sup.- is an anionic group selected from the group consisting of sulfate, sulfonate and halide.

A process is disclosed for imparting wrinkle-resistance and durable press properties to a fibrous garment which is, desirably, made at least in part of a cellulose fiber. The process involves wetting the fiber or garment such that natural fibers swell or the garment has at least about 30 percent by weight of water. The wetted garment, having the swollen fibers, is then treated with a resin solution. The resin must be suitable for imparting wrinkle-resistance and durable press properties to the fibrous garment. Such resins are known in the art. The resin 'treating' solution desirably comprises at least about 10 percent excess of a stoichiometric amount of the resin. The excess solution is removed and the fabric or garment is then dried. The invention can include a step for recycling the excess solution from the treating procedure.

Natural or synthetic fibers (or fabrics, knits, papers, or webs made of such fibers) are improved in at least abrasion resistance, dye receptivity and/or other properties by bringing together on said fibers (or product made thereof) a liquid dispersion of a dispersible normally-solid polymer having pendent acid groups, such as carboxylic groups, and a reagent which reacts with the carboxylic group to render the polymer non-dispersible. The reagent may be one which supplies metal cations having a valence of at least 2 or it may be a primary amine, secondary amine or tertiary amine, or salts of the amine, a polyamine or salt thereof, or a quaternary ammonium salt. The reagent may precede the polymer onto the substrate, or may follow the application of the polymer onto the substrate.
