A web server computer system includes a dispatcher program that processes transaction request messages received from a web browser. The dispatcher program includes a combination of persistent and transient interpreters that are used to process the transaction. The persistent interpreters are maintained in memory for an indefinite period of time and across multiple transactions. One type of persistent interpreter is a master interpreter that is used to coordinate the processing activity. A second type of persistent interpreter is a pristine interpreter that provides relevant context for any application programs required to process the transaction. A transient interpreter is maintained in memory for a finite duration, such as across a single transaction. One type of transient interpreter is a transaction interpreter that is used to process the transaction request message. The transaction interpreter is formed and used by the master interpreter to execute the procedures stored by the pristine interpreters that are required to execute the transaction to completion. When the transaction is complete a transaction result is returned to the web server and the transaction interpreter is preferably deleted from memory. The combination of persistent and transient interpreters in an interpreted language execution environment reduces the setup time across multiple transactions and thereby improves upon transaction processing performance.

This invention consists of a method for providing security for distributing management operations among components of a computer network using a network of mutually trusting, mutually authenticating management services to dispatch operations to selected host systems. Mutual authentication and trust are established on every transmission link from a point of submission to a designated management server which invokes a service provider to perform management operations on a selected host.

Method for providing a security facility for a network of management

The following is a method and apparatus for administering an operation specified for performance on a set of independently managed hosts. The operation is received initially by one of a plurality of management servers in a managed host system. The operation, specifying a group object, is transferred to the management server designated by the system to administer the operation specified on the group object. The designated management server thereafter decomposes the group object into constituent objects which may be host objects or additional group objects. Next, the locally administered objects are scheduled for execution on the hosts administered by the designated management server. The non-locally administered objects are transferred to the management servers identified in a database for administering the objects. After executing the operation on the host objects, the host objects and group objects return status information back to the designated management server. The status information is then transmitted to the management server that initially received the operation.

Method and apparatus for network computer systems management group

A network including a plurality of nodes which communicate over a communications link includes client nodes which are used by users and server nodes. At least one of the server nodes is a management server node, and other server nodes may comprise backup server nodes or software distribution server nodes. To initiate, for example, backup service, the management server node transmits a message to the backup server node to enable it to perform the backup. To initiate software distribution service, the management server node determines the nature of the service, such as downloading new versions, auditing use for licensing purposes, and the like, and transmits a message to the software distribution server node to initiate the operation. The network may include master and slave management server nodes, backup server nodes and software distribution server nodes to further divide the control of the respective operations.
