A system for transferring power and/or data between a host and a store over a single-wire umbilical cable is herein described. The system comprises a host-store interface configured to allow the transfer of both power and data between the host and a store in operative communication therewith. The store comprises a microcontroller and memory operatively coupled thereto, allowing the microcontroller to be powered on and to receive and store data sent by the host in its memory through a single-wire without requiring additional electronic systems that the store may comprise to also be powered on. This data may later be incorporated into pre-programmed systems onboard the store at full power-on, thereby enabling the reprogramming of the store without powering it on prior to launch.

System and method for stores communications

Techniques and architecture are disclosed for improving spurious performance in a signal generator/system. The disclosed techniques/architecture can be used, for example, to enhance/improve the wideband and/or narrowband spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) between a given carrier signal and spurious signals. In some example instances, wideband and/or narrowband SFDR may be improved to about &#x2212;40 dBc or better. In some other example instances, wideband and/or narrowband SFDR may be improved to about &#x2212;70 dBc or better. The disclosed techniques/architecture can be implemented in a wide variety of signal generators/systems, such as a direct digital synthesizer (DDS)-based system, and over a wide range of input clock frequencies (e.g., in the range of about 10 MHz to 40 GHz, or higher).

Techniques for enhancing spurious free dynamic range performance

A method and apparatus for rotatably supporting and driving phonograph records, memory disks or the like while substantially reducing if not eliminating the undesirable effects of mechanical vibrations and drive speed fluctuations. A support frame houses a tank which holds a quantity of liquid such as a mixture of silicon oil and water. A first generally circular member having a plurality of spaced vanes thereon is mounted within the tank adjacent the bottom thereof so that it can be positively rotatably driven from a drive mechanism external to the tank. A second generally circular member having a plurality of spaced vanes thereon is positioned vertically above the first member so that it is supported solely upon the liquid and so that it is free to rotate with respect thereto without any mechanical interconnection to the first member. At least a portion of the vanes of the second member extend downwardly into the liquid but remain vertically spaced apart from the vanes of the first member. When the first member is positively driven, it causes the liquid to circulate within the tank. The rotatively circulating liquid acts as a fluid coupling to rotatably drive the second member as well. The nature of the fluid coupling, the absence of any direct mechanical linkage between the members, and the flywheel effect achieved by the apparatus of the present invention substantially reduce if not eliminate the undesirable effects normally attributable to mechanical vibrations and drive speed fluctuations.

Fluidically supported and fluidically driven turntable

A method and apparatus for rotatably driving phonograph records, memory disks or the like while substantially reducing if not eliminating the undesirably effects of mechanical vibration and drive speed fluctuations. A support frame houses a tank which holds a quantity of liquid such as a mixture of silicon oil and water. A first generally circular member having a plurality of spaced vanes thereon is mounted within the tank adjacent the bottom thereof so that it can be positively rotatably driven from a drive mechanism external to the tank. A second generally circular member having a plurality of spaced vanes thereon is positioned vertically above the first member so that it is free to rotate with respect thereto. At least a portion of the vanes of the second member extend downwardly into the liquid but remain vertically spaced apart from the vanes of the first member. The liquid acts as a fluid coupling such that when the first member is positively driven, it causes the liquid to rotatively circulate within the tank. The rotatively circulating liquid operatively engages the immersed portion of the vanes of the second member thereby causing it to rotate as well. Phonograph records, memory disk or the like may be supportively carried by the upper surface of the second member. The nature of the fluid coupling and the flywheel effect achieved by its rotational circulation substantially reduces if not eliminates the undesirable effects normally attributable to mechanical vibration and drive speed fluctuations.
