In some examples, a system includes a brake rotor, a brake armature configured to engage with the brake rotor to substantially fix a rotational position of the brake rotor relative to the brake armature, and a mechanism mechanically coupled to the brake armature. The brake armature may be configured to rotate in a first rotational direction and a second rotational direction substantially opposite the first rotational direction. The mechanism may be configured to maintain the brake armature in a fixed rotational position when a torque applied to the brake armature in a second rotational direction is less than or equal to a threshold torque value. The mechanism also may be configured to permit rotation of the brake armature in the second rotational direction when torque on the brake armature in the second rotational direction exceeds the threshold torque value.

Electromechanical brake actuator motor brake

A valve actuator is provided for use in conjunction with a drive motor and a valve. In one embodiment, the valve actuator includes a housing assembly, a first power screw rotatably mounted in the housing assembly and configured to be rotated by the drive motor, a first rack translatably mounted in the housing assembly, and a pinion rotatably mounted in the housing assembly and mechanically linked to the valve. The first rack is threadably coupled to the first power screw and is configured to move linearly as the first power screw rotates. The pinion engages the first rack and is configured to rotate as the first rack moves linearly to move the valve to a desired position.

Low profile valve actuator having high torque output

A fluid-powered thrust reverser actuation speed control system and method are provided. A drive fluid is supplied to a fluid-powered drive mechanism that is coupled to a thrust reverser movable component to thereby move the thrust reverser movable component at a first movement speed. A determination is made as to when the thrust reverser movable component attains a predetermined position. In response to the thrust reverser movable component attaining the predetermined position, the drive fluid supplied to the fluid-powered drive mechanism is controlled to thereby move the thrust reverser movable component at a second movement speed that is less than the first movement speed.

Fluid-powered thrust reverser actuation system speed control

An electromechanical actuator is provided for converting rotary action into linear action, and includes an electric motor, a cable yoke, an output shaft, and a pair of cables. The electric motor is adapted to be selectively energized and is configured, upon being energized to generate a drive torque. The cable yoke is coupled to receive the drive torque and is configured, upon receipt thereof, to rotate about a rotational axis. The output shaft is coupled to receive a drive force and is configured, upon receipt thereof, to translate along a linear axis that is disposed at least substantially perpendicular to the rotational axis. Each cable is wound, in pretension, on a portion of the cable yoke and around a portion of the output shaft. The pair of cables is configured, upon rotation of the cable yoke, to supply the drive force to the output shaft.

High accuracy, zero backlash rotary-to-linear electromechanical actuator

A redundant electromechanical actuator is provided that includes first and second electric motors, a common output shaft, first and second drive cable drums, first and second driven cable drums, a first cable, and a second cable. The first and second electric motors are each adapted to be controllably energized to supply a drive torque. The common output shaft is coupled to receive the drive torque supplied from one or both of the motors. The first and second drive cable drums are coupled to the common output shaft to receive the drive torque from one or both of the motors. The first and second driven cable drums are each configured, upon being driven, to rotate. The first cable is coupled between the first drive cable drum and the first driven cable drum, and the second cable is coupled between the second drive cable drum and the second driven cable drum.

Redundant electromechanical actuator for control surfaces

Assemblies and methods are provided for use in coupling a component to an actuator, where the component includes a stem and a drive nut, and the stem is configured to be rotated by the actuator and to move linearly through an opening in the drive nut. In an embodiment, the assembly includes a coupling mechanism, a drive ring, and a carrier, where the coupling mechanism and the carrier each include slots and the drive ring includes projections that correspond with the slots.

Assemblies and methods for coupling a component to an actuator

A thrust reverser actuation system is provided that includes a synchronization system that synchronizes the actuation of at least two actuators coupled to at least two power drive units. The synchronization system includes a first synchronization shaft coupling the first power drive unit to the second power drive unit and a second synchronization shaft coupling the first power drive unit to the second power drive unit. The at least two actuators are adapted to receive a drive force and configured, in response to receipt of the drive force, to move between a stowed position and a deployed position. The synchronization system is configured to transfer power between the first power drive unit and the second power drive unit, thereby eliminating a mismatch in power and provide uniform deployment of the at least two actuators.

Synchronized motor thrust reverser actuation system

A clutch assembly is provided that includes a rotor, a stator, a clutch element disposed between the rotor and stator, and an axial force source. First and second contact surfaces are disposed on the rotor and spaced axially apart. The second surface has a smaller radial distance to a rotor rotational axis than the first surface. The axial force source is in communication with the clutch element and is configured to supply a predetermined axial force to the clutch element. When an opposing axial force is applied to the clutch element, the assembly selectively (i) engages by providing contact between the clutch element and the first clutch element contact surface, when the opposing force is less than the predetermined axial force, and (ii) disengages by providing contact between the clutch element and the second clutch element contact surface, when the opposing force is greater than the predetermined axial force.

Low inertia ball brake/clutch

A fluid-powered actuator assembly is modified to include a low power generator. The low power generator rotates in response to a drive force received from the actuator assembly, and thus only generates electrical power when the actuator assembly is operating. The low power generator is used to supply electrical power to various sensors and circuits, which may be used to implement prognostic and health monitoring capabilities for the actuator assembly.

Methods and apparatus are provided for monitoring an aircraft accessory. The apparatus comprises a processor associated with said aircraft accessory, a transducer coupled to said processor and operable to produce parametric data relating to said aircraft accessory and a memory coupled to said processor having baseline parametric data residing therein, wherein said baseline parametric data comprises the parametric data obtained during an acceptance test procedure. The method comprises installing a transducer configured to produce parametric data relating to said aircraft accessory, coupling said transducer to a processor associated with said aircraft accessory, coupling said processor to a memory associated with said aircraft accessory, recording baseline parametric data relating to said aircraft accessory in said memory during an acceptance test procedure for said aircraft accessory.

A lock assembly for a thrust reverser system that prevents thrust reverser deployment when the thrust reversers are in the stowed position, but does not prevent thrust reverser movement, in either the deploy or stow directions, when the thrust reversers are out of the stowed position and the lock assembly is in the locked position.
