A contrast media injection system includes detects the absolute position of the syringe ram using a non-contact sensor. A series of magnets and Hall-Effect sensors may be used or an opto-reflective system. Illuminated knobs that are connected to the drive mechanism for the syringe ram rotate with the drive and provide visual feedback on operation through the illumination. Analog Hall-Effect sensors are used to determine the presence or absence of magnets that identify the type of faceplate being used. The faceplates include control electronics, connected to the powerhead through connectors, which may be interchangeably used by the two faceplates. The faceplate electronics include detectors for automatically detecting the capacity of pre-filled syringes. Additional features include using historical data to provide optimum pressure limit values during an injection protocol, a removable memory device for storing and transferring information such as injection protocols and injector statistics, and password protection of such protocols.

Powerhead of a power injection system

A dual head contrast media injection system performs a patency check or test injection, determining flow rate and/or flow volume from the programmed protocol. The tubing that connects syringes to a patient shares only a short common section near to the patient. Appropriate injection steps are taken to compensate for tubing elasticity. A wireless remote control and a touch screen control are provided, improving functionality and information delivery. The display brightness is controlled based on the ambient light, and the display panel includes a double swivel permitting re-orientation. The orientation of the display may also be controlled based on, e.g., the current step, the tilt angle of the powerhead, or a manual control. Furthermore, the display is customizable to identify the type of fluid (contrast, saline, etc.) on either side of the injector, to provide matched color coding, and to provide a folder/tab analogy for retrieving injection protocol parameters.

The present invention provides a uniquely position adjustable ophthalmic instrument support table for use in conjunction with an examining chair and a lighting system which allows the user to program the desired room lighting independently for each of several inputs such as instrument switches, examination lights or other electrical devices used during an ophthalmic examination. The ophthalmic instrument support table includes a base unit and a table top mounted to the base unit by support structure operates with an infrared control to allow four degrees of freedom to adjust the location of the table top with respect to both the patient seated in the chair and the doctor examining the patient on the opposite side of the table. The lighting control system allows one or two circuits of room lights to be adjusted in intensity and to have this adjustment automatically recalled to set the programmed room lighting condition upon activation of the input.

Ophthalmic instrument support and lighting system

The present invention provides a uniquely position adjustable ophthalmic instrument support table for use in conjunction with an examining chair and a lighting system which allows the user to program the desired room lighting independently for each of several inputs such as instrument switches, examination lights or other electrical devices used during an ophthalmic examination. The ophthalmic instrument support table includes a base unit and a table top mounted to the base unit by support structure allowing four degrees of freedom to adjust the location of the table top with respect to both the patient seated in the chair and the doctor examining the patient on the opposite side of the table. The lighting control system allows one or two circuits of room lights to be adjusted in intensity and to have this adjustment automatically recalled to set the programmed room lighting condition upon activation of the input.

An adjustable chair including a control system based around a microprocessor and operated by way of switches preferably located on each side of the seat back. The switches are low voltage flat membrane switches by which the operator moves the chair to a desired position. The switches present a low voltage and sterile environment for both the operator and the patient. The switches can also be easily programmed by the operator to act either in a 'momentary' fashion to cause movement of the chair only as long as they are depressed or in a 'maintaining' fashion whereby a single depression of a switch causes selected movement of the chair until such movement is stopped by, for example, a limit switch. In addition, one of the switches can also easily be programmed by the operator to alternatively act as either a recline switch or an 'auto up' switch. The auto up switch causes the chair to assume a raised and reclined position suitable for performing a specific medical procedure. The control system of the present invention further provides a switch disable feature which allows the operator to easily program the system to disable the switches thereby preventing unauthorized, potentially dangerous or damaging operation of the chair. A selectively operable switch beep on feature is also disclosed.

Adjustable chair having programmable control switches

A method of providing extracorporeal to intracorporeal power transfer in a patient employs a cylindrical primary coil inserted into a segment of small intestine which has been separated and closed at one end. The open end is attached to the abdominal wall providing an opening to the exterior of the body. A secondary coil is formed by wrapping a wire around the serosa of the segmented small intestine. This is in effect a transformer which will transfer energy from the primary coil to the secondary coil. The vascularization of the segment provides for rapid and efficient heat dissipation. This device can be used to power heart assist devices and artificial hearts. Since it is located in an internal pouch, proper location of the primary coil is ensured.
