A faceplate for lathes and the like is fabricated of a polymeric material and having a body with a cylindrical surface of substantial depth and indicia marks on the cylindrical surface. The body is turnable just like workpieces on the lathe. The faceplate has a planar front face which is turnable to provide recesses for chucking a workpiece. In one embodiment designed to employ fasteners such as screws to hold the workpiece in place, the body is of one color and the fasteners are located in inserts of contrasting color. The faceplate is intended to be turned. If any chips of the contrasting color appear, the user knows instantly that further turning will cause the chisel to strike the fasteners.

A fish net constructed of conventional open mesh flexible net material is provided with an aperture having an escape panel secured therein. The escape panel is comprised of extruded plastic net material which is substantially rigid to maintain the mesh configuration while permitting slight bending of the panel. Thus, undersized fish can escape through the mesh of the escape panel without being gilled.

An electrical connector for interconnecting the contact pads (52, 56) of components (49, 53) features a planar lamination of insulating sheets forming a body (39) having recesses (46, 48) and apertures (44) containing contacts (10) formed of flat metal stock having spring characteristics including spring elements (22, 26, 30, 36) which provide a redundancy of contact interface through extending upwardly and downwardly relatively to said lamination to engage and interconnect the contact pads. Each of the spring elements is attached to a contact base with a free end providing a cantilever spring action, including wipe of contact points.

Planar array connector and flexible contact therefor

A component carrier (20) and method of manufacture and use includes stamping and forming of a metallic sheet metal strip with adjacent component holders (24, 36) each being formed by beams (26, 38) defined by slots (30-34) arranged to grip components (12) for handling and transport; the beams being offset each from the other to allow deflection in the plane of the said beams; and with several embodiments including slots arranged to produce a controlled deflection and receive components of differing cross-sectional areas. The invention method embraces forming the slots by a tool (S.P.) of V-shaped cross-section following the punching of a round hole in the metal strip. Extending the slots (30-34) into the strip base (22) facilitates loading of the carrier by controlling beam spreading.

Component carrier, method of manufacture and use therefor

A thickness monitoring system for measuring the thickness of layer disposed on both sides of a two sided strip includes a thickness measuring device, a first set of guide rollers mounted to guide the strip past the thickness measuring device along a first path, a set of guide pulleys mounted to invert the strip and to offset the strip laterally with respect to the first path, and a second set of guide rollers which guide the inverted strip past the thickness measuring device along the second path. The thickness measuring device is mounted for movement along a third path which is transverse to the first and second paths to allow the thickness measuring device to monitor either side of the strip by positioning the measuring device in alignment with the respective one of the first and second paths.
