Compact 3D depth capture systems are based on a 3D system driver/interface, a 3D system camera, and a 3D system projector. The systems are compatible with integration in to mobile electronic devices such as smart phones and tablet computers.

A fast spatial light modulator based on a linear MEMS ribbon array enables a depth capture system to operate in structured light and time-of-flight modes. Time-of-flight depth information may be used to phase unwrap structured light depth information. Combined structured light and time-of-flight systems offer precise depth resolution over a wide range of distances.

A structured light system based on a fast, linear array light modulator and an anamorphic optical system captures three-dimensional shape information at high rates and has strong resistance to interference from ambient light. A structured light system having a modulated light source offers improved signal to noise ratios. A wand permits single point detection of patterns in structured light systems.

Structured light system

The invention relates to an immersive vehicle multimedia system that that is affected by vehicle sensors and collected data concerning environmental. The immersive vehicle multimedia system includes a vehicle, at least one sensor or other vehicle component gathering input as data from an external and internal vehicle environment, an immersive multimedia device connected to each sensor, and media content run through the multimedia device. The media content includes a primary script and a secondary script, the secondary script depending on the gathered input.

A series bias voltage increases the sensitivity of a MEMS ribbon to control signal voltages. This effect is obtained because of the nonlinear dependence of ribbon deflection on applied voltage. The resulting low-voltage operation of MEMS ribbons makes them more compatible with high speed electronics.

A device for creating microgradients in solution is disclosed. The device contains a microfluidic channel with openings at each end and two or more small apertures to a bath. Electrodes are placed in the openings at either end of the channel and an electrical power supply is connected to the electrodes. Several distinct current paths exist from one end of the channel to the other. For example current may flow from one electrode, through a portion of the channel, through an aperture into the bath, back through another aperture into the channel, and along another portion of the channel to the other electrode. Current flows along all possible connected paths when an electric field is applied along the channel and induces fluid flow into and out of the apertures in the channel. Fluid flow through the apertures results in the formation of microgradients in solution near the microfluidic channel device.

Monolithic IC/MEMS processes are disclosed in which high-stress silicon nitride is used as a mechanical material while amorphous silicon serves as a sacrificial layer. Electronic circuits and micro-electromechanical devices are built on separate areas of a single wafer. The sequence of IC and MEMS process steps is designed to prevent alteration of partially completed circuits and devices by subsequent high process temperatures.

A scanned, one-dimensional, phased-array display system combines imaging optics on one axis with Fourier transform optics on another. The display offers the energy efficiency and fault tolerance of phase modulator-based displays, and the compactness, flexibility and speed of optical MEMS. Also described is a mechanism to introduce amplitude variations on the Fourier axis if needed to compensate for image artifacts.
