A monolithic edge emitting semiconductor laser comprising multiple laser diodes using aluminum indium gallium arsenide phosphide AlInGaAs/InGaAsP/InP material system, emitting in long wavelengths (1250 nm to 1720 nm). Each laser diode contains an active region comprising aluminium indium gallium arsenide quantum wells (AlInGaAs QW) and aluminium indium gallium arsenide (AlInGaAs) barriers and connected to the subsequent monolithic laser diode by highly doped, low bandgap and low resistive indium gallium arsenide junction called tunnel junction.

A method for providing localized heating of the dermal layers of skin of a patient, using energy in the form of a group of pulses having defined parameters in a controlled manner. This method preferably uses an optical delivery system to deliver pulsed energy to a specific spot of skin so that targeted layers of the affected skin are heated to a desired temperature range. The temperature range is optimally selected to maximize treatment efficacy while minimizing pain to the patient. Example applications include reducing wrinkles, acne, hair, scar tissue, warts, and promoting wound healing. In this method, the temperature of the selected locus rises quickly to the desired temperature range, then is maintained within a controlled range with a relatively flat temperature profile. The method maintains the temperature by controlling one or more of a pulse energy intensity, pulse width, and pulse frequency or time delay between pulses.

Variable intensity laser treatments of the skin

A portable, miniature laser device that is capable of accurate bodily placement and registration of treatment area for extended timeframes which is useful in long-duration treatments and multi-step treatments of tissue where accurate tissue registration is required, such as treatments requiring vaccine shots or other medications provided to tissue after laser irradiation. Example applications include: improving vaccine efficacy, reducing warts, skin rashes, skin cancer, fungal diseases and promoting wound healing.

A system for self-aligning assembly and packaging of semiconductor lasers allows reduction of time, cost and testing expenses for high power density systems. A laser package mounting system, such as a modified TO-can (transistor outline can), has modifications that increase heat transfer from the active laser to a heat exchanger or other heat sink. A prefabricated heat exchanger assembly mounts both a laser package and one or more lenses. Direct mounting of a fan assembly to the package further minimizes assembly steps. Components may be physically and optically aligned during assembly by clocking and other indexing means, so that the entire system is self-aligned and focused by the assembly process without requiting post-assembly adjustment. This system can lower costs and thereby enable the use of high powered semiconductor lasers in low cost, high volume production, such as consumer items.

Provided are dermatological medical devices and methods comprising a distal end for positioning at a region proximal a target therapeutic region of tissue, an output port at the distal end, an energy source that generates optical energy, which is output from the output port to the target therapeutic region of tissue, and a microcontroller that processes replenishment data that controls an operation parameter of the device. The device is activated for performing a treatment operation in response to a receipt and processing of the replenishment data.

Handheld laser device

A semiconductor laser diode using the aluminum gallium, arsenide, gallium indium arsenide phosphide, indium phosphide, (AlGaInAs/GaInAsP/InP) material system and related combinations is disclosed. Both the design of the active layer and the design of the optical cavity are optimized to minimize the temperature rise of the active region and to minimize the effects of elevated active layer temperature on the laser efficiency. The result is a high output power semiconductor laser for the wavelengths between 1.30 and 1.61 micrometers for the pumping of erbium doped waveguide devices or for direct use in military, medical, or commercial applications.

High-power infrared semiconductor diode light emitting device

An alignment tool of the present invention is provided for aligning a sight for a bow. The alignment tool may comprise a sight reference plate comprising reference markings, and a support mechanism attached to the sight reference plate for releasably attaching the sight reference plate to the bow behind the sight such that the sight may be adjusted relative to the reference markings on the sight reference plate. The support mechanism may comprise a peg for releasable attachment to a stabilizer hole of the bow. The alignment tool may further comprise an additional structure for enabling the adjustment of the nocks, rest, and tiller of the bow.
