A method and arrangement for transferring data between nodes over a telephone cable that couples the nodes provides a dual configuration node transmitter, and a dual configuration node receiver. The dual configuration transmitter has a first transmitter circuit that transmits data over a first configuration of the telephone cable and a second transmitter that simultaneously transmits other data over a second configuration of the telephone cable. The dual configuration receiver is coupled to the telephone cable and has a first receiver circuit that selects the data transmitted by the first transmitter circuit and rejects the data transmitted by the second transmitter circuit, and a second receiver circuit that selects the data transmitted by the second transmitter circuit and rejects the data transmitted by the first transmitter circuit. The transmitting of data over two configurations of the same cable allows data to be transmitted twice as fast as over the same cable set up for transmission in a single configuration. Alternatively, in an Ethernet application, one configuration may carry the data while the other configuration simultaneously carries activity information.

Method and arrangement for increasing data transmisssion rate over

Miniature light-activated lamp control apparatus and the like, including a thin disk-shaped switching unit positionable within a light bulb socket and a thin light conductor having one end attached thereto, the light conductor being extendable through the gap between the electrically conductive inner wall of the socket and the electrically conductive outer surface of the bulb base disposed in the socket, and terminating at the opposite end in a lens for gathering ambient or other light. The switching unit has a first contact on one side for engagement with the socket center terminal, and a second contact on an opposing side for engagement with the center terminal of a light bulb. The unit includes a thin circuit board having control circuitry mounted thereon, such circuitry being positioned to occupy available space between the conical bulb base and the circuit board. Also mounted on the circuit board and in light communication with the light conductor is a photodetector electrically coupled to the control circuitry. The control circuitry receives operating power from the lamp through the first contact and is responsive to light communicated through the light conductor to turn the power to the second contact OFF and ON. The circuitry also has provision for gradually applying the power to the bulb (slow start) to extend bulb life, and has a hysteresis response to the incoming light intensity so as to eliminate turn-ON and turn-OFF flicker.

Miniature light-activated lamp control apparatus and the like

Data is stored on a rotating memory disk by maintaining constant the relative velocity between the recording transducer and the recording media. The rotational speed of the disk is varied as the transducer is translated radially of the disk recording surface, the disk surface being divided into a number of concentric track zones each containing a predetermined number of tracks. For any given zone, an optimum rotational motor speed is established and the rotational speed of the disk is maintained at that zone speed when the transducer position signals specify a given zone. As the transducer is commanded to step to a different track in a different zone, the rotational speed of the disk is altered to match the new zone speed within a relatively short period of time. Once the transducer is located within the given zone, the rotational disk speed is maintained at that zone speed for motion within the zone.
