A physical assessment device includes an instrument head, an optical assembly and an adapter interface member. The instrument head includes an illumination assembly including at least one LED and a drive circuit for powering the at least one LED with a pulse width modulation (PWM) current to achieve a variable brightness of the at least one LED. The optical assembly includes a plurality of optical components disposed along an optical axis. The adapter interface member enables an image capture device to be attached to the instrument head and aligned with the optical axis. The image capture device is configured to capture images of medical targets when illuminated by the at least one LED. The drive circuit is coordinated with the image capture device to ensure that the medical targets are at least partially illuminated during the capturing of the images notwithstanding the variable brightness of the at least one LED.

Systems and methods may determine an amount of current being drawn by a light source and determine, based on the amount of current, a type of light source. Based on the type of light source, an amount of time associated with disabling the light source may be determined. A voltage may be supplied to the light source for the amount of time.

Increasing battery life in handheld device

An instrument head for attachment to a plurality of instrument handles having different power sources is described. The instrument head includes at least one light-emitting diode, and a controller. When the controller detects an instability in a voltage input from a power source in an instrument handle attached to the instrument head, the controller transitions from a normal mode of operation to a mitigation mode of operation. The mitigation mode of operation prevents an increase in output of the at least one light-emitting diode for a predetermined period of time.

Physical assessment device

An instrument head is provided for attachment to a plurality of instrument handles having different power profiles. The instrument head contains an illumination assembly including at least one LED as well as a drive circuit for detecting a power profile of an attached instrument handle and converting variable voltages received from the attached instrument handle to a constant current for powering the at least one LED based on the power profile. Accordingly, the instrument head enables use with a plurality of instrument handles, including those originally configured for use only with incandescent light sources.

Wearable headlight devices and related methods are provided and can include a luminaire that can include a housing having a luminaire vent therein for receiving cooling air and a light source contained within the housing. An air moving device can be located outside of the luminaire for facilitating cooling air intake through the luminaire vent. An exhaust tube can be connected to the luminaire and the air moving device to facilitate air flow of the cooling air between the luminaire and the air moving device.

Wearable headlight devices and related methods

A powered system includes a parent module including a first battery storing a charge and a child module including a second battery storing a charge and a controller. When the parent module and the child module are in electrical communication, the controller is configured to receive power from the parent module. When the charge in the parent module is depleted, the controller is configured to backfeed power from the child module to the parent module.

A printed circuit board assembly includes a printed circuit board and a ferrite. The printed circuit board has a substantially planar top surface and a substantially planar bottom surface. The ferrite has an annular cross section that defines a channel. The ferrite is positioned on the printed circuit board such that a portion of the plurality of traces passes through the channel.
