A multi-mode LED retrofit module is provided for a flashlight of a type having a serious circuit including a battery power supply, a light bulb, and a single pull, single throw rotary on/off switch. The retrofit module includes a logical control device which measures an on/off time of the rotary switch, subsequent to a previous on-time which is greater than a pre-determined threshold. If the subsequent on/off time is less than a pre-determined threshold (preferably 0.5 seconds), the subsequent short on/off cycle is interpreted as an instruction to change mode.

Multi-mode LED retrofit module apparatus and method

A self-contained, rechargeable LED flashlight uses a zener diode in reverse-breakdown avalanche mode as a low-cost voltage regulator. A second embodiment of the LED flashlight incorporates boost-buck circuitry to allow the internal rechargeable flashlight battery to be recharged through external dry cells. An LED or LED array of the flashlight may be by passed with operator control to allow an internal battery to operate an external device, such as a cellular telephone or the like.

Rechargeable light-emitting diode driver circuit

A low cost fiber optic lighting display system includes a light source, an electronic shutter having independently controllable pixel elements positioned proximate to the light source, a controller for controlling the pixels, and a plurality of optical fibers, each fiber having input and output ends with the input end of each fiber positioned proximate to the output side of a pixel element or group of pixel elements. The corresponding method includes providing a fiber optic lighting display having a light source, an electronic shutter having independently controllable pixels, a controller connected to the electronic shutter for controlling the pixels, and a plurality of optical fibers, each optical fiber having an input end positioned proximate to a pixel or group of pixel elements and an output end. The method further includes positioning the output ends of the optical fibers adjacent to a viewing surface, illuminating the light source, and activating the controller to produce an image on the viewing surface.

A mirco-controller and boost converter circuit provide constant current to light emitting diode array. A micro-controller operatively coupled with a semiconductor switch and the boost converter circuit measure the ability of a DC power supply to change the inductor. Duty cycles of the semiconductor switch are modified according to the measurement so as to supply substantially constant current to the LED array through an inductor regardless of actual battery voltage.

Light emitting diode driver circuit and method

A system for directing water, nutrients and air to the root system of a plant includes an elongated, hollow housing having a wall member that permits water and air to be transmitted therethrough and which defines an internal cavity with an open top and an open bottom. The system may include a plurality of deflectors that are configured to direct water entering into the open top in a direction toward the wall member so that the water may be passed through the wall member. The system may include an upper flange, which may be coupled to the housing proximate the open top, and/or a lower flange, which may be coupled to the housing and extend upwardly and outwardly therefrom.

Convertible flashlight-headlamp

A penetrating antibiotic gel for treating pain, inflammation and other pathological conditions affecting musculoskeletal tissues and other soft tissues of the body. The composition includes an antibiotic compound and a mobilizing agent in an amount sufficient to enable the antimicrobial compound to penetrate into the sub-dermal soft tissues. The antimicrobial compound may be a macrolide antibiotic compound such as azithromycin, erythromycin or roxithromycin, for example, and the mobilizing agent may be an organogel compound, such as pluronic lecithin liposomal organogel (PLO). The composition may further include a penetration enhancing adjuvant, such as d-limonene, for example. The composition may be applied topically so as to penetrate into the sub-dermal soft tissues, or may injected so as to be absorbed into the soft tissues locally.

Penetrating antibiotic gel for soft tissue diseases

A convoluted, bi-metallic test strip is inserted between a battery and an electrical circuit within a flashlight having a nonzero, quiescent, current drain. Squeezing the test strip permits consumers to temporarily test the flashlight. The strip is then removed by consumers after the flashlight has been purchased.
