In accordance with the invention, there is provided a telecommunication jack that is free of cross-over sections, has cross-talk characteristics that approach Category 6 levels, and avoids the use of spring contact wires supported in a cantilevered fashion. This is achieved in a preferred implementation by spring terminal contact wires that are arch shaped. Each spring wire has a first leg having an end, a second leg having an end and an apex portion located between the first and second legs where the ends of the legs are supported on a wire board and each end makes electrical contact with separate conductive pads. When utilized in an operating circuit, one end and leg of a spring terminal contact wire is coupled to a conductive pad on the wire board that is in a current carrying signal path, and the other end and leg of that spring terminal contact wire is coupled to a different conductive pad on the wire board adapted for connection to a cross-talk compensating component. In accordance with the invention, both pads of the wire board are connected to a common spring terminal contact wire, although only one pad and one leg of the arch shaped spring wire may be in the current carrying signal path. The legs of the arch shaped spring terminal contact wires can be of equal or unequal length, the arch can be semi-circular, triangular or the like, and the conductive pads on the wire board of adjacent spring wire terminals can be either aligned or staggered in distance from the edge of the wire board.

High frequency telecommunication connector

A connection system for communication connectors. A first connector housing forms a front opening having an axis for receiving a second connector having a latch in the direction of the axis. The first connector housing has a retaining surface in the region of the front opening for cooperating with a part of the latch and defining a connected position for the second connector within the first connector housing. At least two resilient fingers project from a rear portion of the first connector housing toward the front opening, symmetrically with respect to the axis of the opening. Free ends of the fingers urge the second connector toward the connected position and restrain the second connector from deviating from the connected position during use. Optimal electrical performance of the mated connectors can then be maintained.

Positive connection system for high frequency communication connectors

A communication jack has a first pair and a second pair of contact wires defining corresponding signal paths in the jack. Parallel, co-planar free end portions of the wires are formed to connect electrically with a mating connector that introduces offending crosstalk to the signal paths. First free end portions of the first pair of contact wires are supported adjacent one another, and second free portions of the second pair are supported adjacent corresponding ones of the first free end portions. Intermediate sections of the first pair of contact wires diverge vertically and traverse one another to align adjacent to corresponding intermediate sections of the second pair of wires, to produce sufficient inductive compensation coupling to counter the offending crosstalk from the plug. Capacitive compensation coupling may be obtained for the contact wires via one or more printed wiring boards supported on or in the jack housing.

Inductive crosstalk compensation in a communication connector

The present disclosure relates to a data/communications distribution box that forms an interior space which can be closed with a cover and a plurality of cable openings adapted to permit the passage of cable into and out of the interior space. Inside the interior space are a plurality of connector brackets which each include a plurality of mounting ports that are adapted to receive a variety of different types of connector modules which are used to connectorize data/communications wires and fibers.

Data/communications distribution box

A faceplate or console unit for electrical or fiber optic cable connectors. The unit has a base wall with at least one connector opening for mounting a first connector in the opening so that, when mounted, the first connector is accessible to an outside mating connector. A protective hood surrounds a portion of the base wall. The hood extends a determined height above the base wall, and the first connector can be accessed by a mating connector from a direction that is clear of the hood. The hood is arranged to prevent objects near the unit from striking the outside connector and thus causing its connection with the first connector to be interrupted.

Protective console unit for electrical or optical connectors

A crosstalk compensating connector jack assembly has a dielectric spring block having a staggered configuration of lead frames. The conductors of one of the lead frames are maintained at a first level in the block and the conductors of a second one of the lead frames are maintained at a second level within the block. The two levels are spaced apart a distance that permits the formation of interacting inductive loops. For at least two pairs of conductors, one of the conductors is in the first lead frame and the other conductor is in the second lead frame, thereby forming two inductive loops which interact with each other to reduce crosstalk. The spring block is made of two substantially identical halves adapted to be latched together to hold the conductors in place.

Crosstalk compensation for connector jack

A network interface device includes a base, a cover and a circuit board secured in the base. The circuit board includes terminations for input and output communication lines. Each pair of input and output communication lines corresponds to a single standard telephone line, a high speed data line or other type of line. The communication line terminations may be implemented as insulation displacement connectors, and the cover may include projections on its inner surface such that closing the cover also closes the insulation displacement connectors on the circuit board. For each communication line, the circuit board may include a subscriber bridge which establishes a breakable connection between the input and output line terminations via traces in the circuit board. In fixed wireless, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and other similar applications, the circuit board may also include terminations for input and output power lines, and the base and cover may be extended to accommodate an uninterruptible power supply. The power supply supplies the input power line to the corresponding termination on the circuit board, and the output power line is supplied to a power input of a remote unit in a fixed wireless system or other electronic unit external to the network interface device. The circuit board may also include power protection circuitry for protecting against surges on the input and output communication and power lines.

Faceplate for connectors

A storage spool adapted to have excess optical fiber or wired lengths wound thereon consists of a cylinder having a curved outer surface on which the fibers are to be wound. A mounting arm extends from a separating wall portion on the curved surface and has a mounting latch member on its distal end. The arm has an arcuate fiber guide portion for guiding the fibers onto the curved surface, and retaining means are provided for maintaining the fibers in position on the curved surface of the cylinder.

Information display apparatus

An apparatus, preferably plastic, is configured to be attached to a wall face plate, for example, a face plate for a telephone jack, an electrical power outlet, coaxial jack, fiber optic port, etc., and is configured to display information, such as an identification or extension number. The information display apparatus has a housing with a display face that receives and supports an information panel for displaying the information. A transparent cover is placed over the information panel. The display face can be angled to permit viewing of the information at a vantage point above the wall face plate. The apparatus is attached to the exterior face of the wall face plate by attaching the housing to a screw shaft associated with a face plate screw or by adhering the rear side of the apparatus to the face plate with an adhesive material, including for example, an adhesive foam tape.

Apparatus and method for displaying information at a wall face plate

A modular plug (23) for terminating cordage includes a housing (41) having a free end (46) and a cordage-input end. An end portion of a length of cordage (21) to be terminated by the plug is inserted into the cordage-input end of the housing to cause exposed individually insulated conductors extending beyond a jacketed portion of the cordage to be received in a conductor-holding portion of the housing. Blade-like terminals (42--42) inserted into slots opening to an exterior surface of the housing engage electrically the conductors. An anchoring member (61) is caused to be moved to an operative position whereat a primary jacket anchoring surface (74) of the anchoring member becomes disposed in compressive engagement with a jacket of the cordage. The geometry of the anchoring member is such that the primary anchoring surface in an unoperated position is angled to a longitudinal axis of the end portion of the length of cordage. Also, the jacket anchoring surface has suitable length so that when in an operated position in which the jacket anchoring surface is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the end portion of the length of cordage, relative motion between the housing and portions of the cordage outside the housing do not induce undue stress concentrations in the cordage. The anchoring member secures the end portion of the cordage against unintended movement with respect to the housing and transfers forces applied to the cordage to the housing. Strain-relief facilities also are provided for the insulated conductors and are such that a conductor restraining bar (75) under the application of forces is moved substantially linearly into engagement with the conductors.
