A bi-directional switch that includes a first terminal, a second terminal, and a plurality of ballast circuits is provided. Each ballast circuit includes a first metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) comprising a first input connector, a first output connector, a first body, and a first body diode, and a second MOSFET comprising a second input connector, a second output connector, a second body, and a second body diode. Each first input connector is coupled to the first terminal, each second input connector is coupled to the second terminal, and each first output connector is coupled only to the second output connector of the second MOSFET that is in a same ballast circuit.

Embodiments relate to safing logic and fire set systems with a dual-mode pulse gate driver device and method of use. An aspect includes a device for a circuit having a switch, the device comprising: a gate driver including a trigger input to receive a trigger signal to initiate a test of the circuit in a first mode or a pulse through the circuit to cause a pyrotechnic chain reaction in a second mode, a power supply input and an output for driving the switch in response to receiving the signal. The device includes a trickle charge capacitor coupled to the power supply input. The device includes a high impedance coupled to the capacitor and input power circuitry, the high impedance trickle charging the capacitor and preventing a high voltage through the switch from being applied to the power circuitry in the first mode for subsequent operation in the second mode.

Safing logic and fire set system with dual-mode pulse gate driver apparatus and method of use

Power modules with reduced parasitic inductances are provided. A power module includes a first substrate including a first electrically-conductive layer and a second substrate including a second electrically-conductive layer. These substrates may be stacked on each other. A scalable network of power switches may be arranged on the substrates. Power bars may be connectable to the electrically-conductive layers through electromechanical interfaces at selectable interface locations. The locations and/or type of interface may be selectable based on the arrangement of the switches. The first and second electrically-conductive layers may be disposed on mutually opposed surfaces of a dielectric layer having a thickness chosen to effect a level of coupling between respective source and return current paths provided by the electrically-conductive layers. The level of coupling may be arranged to increase the mutual inductance within the power module, which can effectively reduce the formation of parasitic inductance in the power module.

A multiport AC link converter includes a resonant AC link, an input port, an output port, and a plurality of switches. A first subset of the switches is between the input port the resonant link and a second subset of the switches is between the resonant link and the output port. The switch sequencing for the input port is selected and executed independently of the switch sequencing for the output port the switch sequencings for the output port is selected and executed independently of that for the input port.

Soft-switching gate control circuitry is disclosed. The circuitry includes a first discharge circuit coupled across a first switching device. A first control circuit, upon a first switch input signal transitioning from a disabled state to an enabled state, is adapted to cause the first discharge circuit to transition from a high impedance state to a discharge impedance state, and when a voltage across the first switching device drops below a first threshold value, cause the first switching device to transition from an off state to an on state.

A power management technique for a power bus includes a method and apparatus employing a Faraday electrical energy sink for a power bus. In general, the technique powers a power bus from a fuel cell plant when the actual voltage of the power bus is less than or equal to a nominal voltage for the power bus and sinks power from the power bus into the fuel cell plant when the actual voltage exceeds the nominal voltage.
