Various improvements are provided to resonant DC/DC and AC/DC converter circuit. The improvements are of particular interest for LLC circuits. Some examples relate to self-oscillating circuit and others relate to converter circuits with frequency control, for example for power factor correction, driven by an oscillator.

DC/DC resonant converters and power factor correction using resonant converters, and corresponding control methods

An AC/DC PFC converter comprises an LLC PFC pre-regulator and a DC/DC converter output stage. The output stage has a feedback unit adapted to provide a feedback signal (in addition to the conventional feedback of the bus voltage error) to the control circuit of the PFC pre-regulator for modulating the controlled output voltage of the PFC pre-regulator in dependence on the output power and/or the input current and voltage. In this way, the total harmonic distortion of the input of the converter can be reduced by controlling the gate switching in the PFC pre-regulator.

AC/DC PFC converter using a half bridge resonant converter, and corresponding conversion method

A half bridge resonant converter comprises a half bridge inverter having a high side switch and a low side switch with an output defined from a node between the high side switch and the low side switch. The output connects to a resonant circuit. There are separate control circuits for generating the gate drive signals for controlling the switching of the high side switch and low side switch, in dependence on an electrical feedback parameter, each with different reference voltage supplies.

Half bridge resonant converters, circuits using them, and corresponding control methods

A driver device () for driving a load (), in particular for driving an LED unit comprising one or more LEDs is presented. The driver device comprises input terminals () for connecting the driver device to an electrical power supply () for receiving a variable input voltage (V) from the electrical power supply, a converter unit () for converting the input voltage (V) to an output voltage (V) including a resonant converter () and a switch unit (), wherein the switch unit is adapted to provide a chopped voltage of the input voltage as a drive voltage (V) to the resonant converter, and a control unit () connected to the switch unit for controlling a pulse frequency (f) of the chopped voltage, wherein the control unit is adapted to control an input current (I) drawn from the electrical power supply by controlling the pulse frequency of the chopped voltage on the basis of a measured value of the variable input voltage.

Driver device and driving method

A multiple inductive component () comprises:&#x2014;a cylindrical drum core component () with at least two axially spaced circumferential grooves () in its cylindrical outer surface (), a separation disc portion () between said two circumferential grooves and two outer disc portions () at the sides of the said two circumferential grooves, respectively, directed away from the separation disc portion;&#x2014;at least one first winding () arranged in a first one () of said grooves;&#x2014;at least one second winding () arranged in a second one () of said grooves;&#x2014;a cylindrical shell core component () arranged coaxially around the cylindrical drum core component;&#x2014;two outer air gaps () between the cylindrical shell core component and said two outer disc portions, respectively. The separation disc portion is magnetically short circuited with the cylindrical shell core component.

Multiple inductive component

In various examples, a converter unit for converting an input voltage to an output voltage is disclosed. The converter includes input terminals for connecting the converter unit to a voltage supply and for receiving the input voltage from the voltage supply and output terminals for connecting the converter unit to a load for driving the load. A controllable switch is connected to an inductor. The converter unit further includes a current detector for detecting a current of the inductor, a voltage slope detector for detecting a slope of a voltage measured across the controllable switch, and a control unit for controlling the controllable switch on the basis of the inductor current and the voltage slope.
