A mobile station receives a neighbor list from a base station in an area of a public wireless network that borders a private wireless network. The neighbor list includes encrypted channel identifiers corresponding to private network channels transmitted by the private wireless network and unencrypted channel identifiers corresponding to public network channels transmitted by the public wireless network. If the mobile station does not subscribe to the private wireless network, the mobile station does not recognize the encrypted channel identifiers and simply ignores them. However, if the mobile station subscribes to the private wireless network, the mobile station decrypts the encrypted channel identifiers and determines whether it is able to initiate a handoff to any of the corresponding private network channels.

Method and system for handoffs between public and private networks

A device may receive a virtual image of a first state of a first virtual machine. Session information of the state of the first virtual machine may be synchronized with a second state of a second virtual machine. The second state of the second virtual machine may become active when the first virtual machine becomes unavailable. The device may identify that the first virtual machine is unavailable; and output, based on the identifying, the virtual image of the first state to a particular third virtual machine, to cause the particular third virtual machine to restore the first state of the first virtual machine. The second state of the second virtual machine may become inactive when the first state is restored to the third virtual machine.

A method of operating a communication system is disclosed. A time sensitive data stream is sent to a wireless device via a first wireless station. A handoff criteria is determined to have been satisfied. Based on the handoff criteria being satisfied, at least one control message is sent that instructs the wireless device to increase a buffer size associated with the time sensitive data stream.

The transmission Control Protocol (TCP) may be optimized for a cellular network having a radio segment. A network device may receive state information relating to processing of traffic at a radio interface in a cellular network and receive packets transmitted by user equipment (UE). The network device may forward the modified version of the packets towards a destination indicated by a destination address field of the packets.

A ratio is calculated based on a number of incoming calls received by a mobile device and a number of outgoing calls originating from the mobile device. The ratio is also based on locations of callers that originated the incoming calls. The ratio is compared to an influencer threshold. When the ratio is greater than the influencer threshold, then a subscriber associated with the mobile device is indicated to be an influencer that potentially affects decisions of other subscribers regarding whether to cancel or maintain their subscriptions with the wireless service. An incentive is provided to the influencer to increase the likelihood that the influencer will retain a subscription with the wireless service, thereby increasing the likelihood that other subscribers who might be influenced by the influencer will retain their respective subscriptions.

A method and system of managing QoS for a plurality of video capture devices coupled to a common communication link. A CU coupled between the video capture devices and the communication link may provide each video capture device a respective level of QoS over the communication link. The CU may then receive a video stream from a given video capture device. Thereafter, the CU may detect a predefined minimum threshold rate of intraframes in the video stream and responsively adjust QoS over the communication link to increase a respective level of QoS provided to the given video capture device. In turn, the CU may send the video stream over the communication link with the increased respective level of QoS. Subsequently, the CU may adjust QoS over the communication link to decrease a respective level of QoS provided to the given video capture device.

A method and apparatus for setting up a conference communication between a remote party and a plurality of local parties. A base unit may engage in communication with a remote party. Thereafter, the base unit may apply a floor control process with respect to the local parties to limit the number local parties that can have dedicated channels at any give time. More particularly, the base unit may receive from a local party a request for a new dedicated channel to transmit conference bearer data and responsively establish the new dedicated channel with the local party only if a present number of established dedicated channels with local parties is less than a predetermined threshold. The base unit may then receive conference bearer data and responsively transmit the conference bearer data over a broadcast channel for receipt by the plurality of local parties.

A plurality of users who are influencers are identified from a group of wireless-service subscribers, wherein an influencer is a user who is likely to affect decisions of other users regarding whether to cancel or maintain their subscriptions with a particular carrier based on whether the influencer cancels or maintains his or her subscription. A list of influencers is thereby created. An incentive to provide the list of identified influencers is determined. The incentive increases the likelihood that the set of influencers will retain their respective subscriptions, thereby increasing the likelihood that other subscribers who might be influenced will also retain their respective subscriptions.

A repeater system is supplied for providing wireless communications. In an example, a repeater system is supplied to receive user information with an antenna in a wireless signal at a first frequency and transfer the user information in an electrical signal at the first frequency. A frequency converter receives the user information in the electrical signal at the first frequency and transfers the user information in the electrical signal at a second frequency. A first coupler receives the user information in the electrical signal at the second frequency and transfers the user information in a capacitive signal. A second coupler receives the user information in the capacitive signal and transfers the user information in an electrical signal at the second frequency. A second frequency converter receives the user information in the electrical signal at the second frequency and transfers the user information in the electrical signal at the first frequency. An antenna receives the user information in the electrical signal at the first frequency and transfers the user information in a wireless signal at the first frequency. A method and apparatus for switching backhaul communication links is disclosed. The method comprises monitoring communication traffic flowing across a primary backhaul communication link. When a problem is detected with the primary backhaul communication link, the traffic is shifted from the primary backhaul communication link onto a secondary backhaul communication link. The traffic may be shifted based upon voice traffic types. The traffic may be shifted based upon voice traffic types and data traffic types.

Backhaul path diversity for wireless networks

Systems and methods are disclosed for performing PMD tests on a fiber span that is in service. For a fiber span transporting data signals in data channels of a data bandwidth, the following methods may be used for PMD tests. For a first method, a light system transmits test signals over test channels outside of the data bandwidth onto the fiber span. The test channels may have wavelengths longer or shorter than the data channels. The PMD measurement system receives the test signals and measures PMD on the fiber span. For a second method, a light system transmits test signals over available channels in the data bandwidth onto the fiber span. The data bandwidth may not be fully utilized for transporting data, so there are data channels available for PMD testing. The PMD measurement system receives the test signals and measures PMD on the fiber span.
