The invention relates to a data transmission in a digital mobile communication system. In a mobile communication system employing a so-called multi-channel access technique, one or more traffic channels may be allocated to a mobile station (MS) for data transfer, in accordance with the data transfer rate required by the application using the mobile station. In the invention, a data call is determined minimum and maximum requirements for the data transfer rate of the user data. The mobile communication network (BSS, MSC) dynamically adjusts (Handover CMD/Additional Assignment) the channel configuration assigned to the mobile station (MS) for the data call and consisting of one or more traffic channels, within the limits of said minimum and maximum requirements of the data channel, depending on the changing allocation state of the resources of the mobile communication network.

High-speed data transmission in a digital mobile communication system

For improving data transmission over the radio path between a mobile station and a base station in a mobile telecommunications system, a divider splits a data signal whose speed is higher than the maximum data transfer rate in one frame, into at least two signals of lower speed before transmission over the radio path. The mobile station is allocated at least two traffic channels for the high-speed data transmission so that each of the signals of lower speed is transmitted over the radio path in its respective traffic channel. A combiner combines the signals of lower speed received over the radio path, to reconstitute the original signal at the receiving end.

Method and arrangement for high-speed data transmission in a mobile telecommunications system

For high-speed data transmission in a digital mobile system, the mobile network allocates n parallel rate-adapted traffic channels to a high-speed user data signal which requires a data transfer rate R.sub.user within a range (n-1)*R.sub.ch &lt;R.sub.user &lt;n*R.sub.ch, wherein R.sub.ch is the maximum transmission rate of a single traffic channel. The user data signal is divided in the transmitter into transmission frames (L, L+1, L+2) for transmission via the parallel traffic channels (ch1-chn) in such a way that all the information bits in the transmission frames of n-1 traffic channels carry user data bits (DATA), and the user data transfer rate of each of the n-1 traffic channels is R.sub.ch. In the frames of the nth traffic channel (chn) the number of the information bits carrying user data bits (DATA) is selected to correspond to the user data rate R.sub.user -(n-1)*R.sub.ch exceeding the capacity of the other n-1 traffic channels. The remaining information bits in the frames of the nth traffic channel carry stuff bits (FILL).

High-speed data transmission in mobile communication networks

For data transmission in a digital mobile communication system, in a mobile communication system employing a so-called multi-channel access technique, one or more traffic channels may be allocated to a mobile station for data transfer, in accordance with the data transfer rate required by the application using the mobile station. Minimum and maximum requirements are determined for the data transfer rate of the user data. The mobile communication network dynamically adjusts the channel configuration assignment to the mobile station for the data call, so as to consist of one or more traffic channels, within the limits of the minimum and maximum requirements of the data transfer rate, depending on the changing allocation state of the resources of the mobile communication network.

The invention relates to controlling transmission power and carrying out a handover during a data transmission over the radio path between a mobile station and a base station (BTS) in a mobile telecommunications system. A mobile station can be allocated at least two traffic channels for a high-speed data transmission. The mobile station is arranged to measure the characteristics of the received signal, such as the signal level and/or quality, in each of the allocated traffic channels. The radio network is arranged to control the transmitting power of the mobile and base stations and make the decision on a handover on the basis of a combination of measurement results of two or more traffic channels, or on the basis of the measurement result of the poorest traffic channel.

In a mobile communication system, two or more parallel traffic channels are allocated for high-speed data transmission over the radio path. Different channel numbers (e.g., ch0, ch1, ch2, ch3) are assigned to these parallel traffic channels for the duration of a connection. The data of a high-speed data signal are inserted at the distribution point of the transmission end of the connection, into frames, each of which is provided with a channel number indicating the parallel traffic channel used for the transmission. The frames transmitted in a traffic channel always contain the same channel number during the whole call. The frames are divided into parallel traffic channels in a sequential order according to the channel numbering. At the reception end, of the connection, the data contained in the frames are reassembled into a high-speed data signal in the sequential order according to the channel numbers provided in the frames. Additionally, frame numbering may be used within each of the traffic channels so that at least two successive frames always have a different frame number (e.g., fr0, fr1). As a consequence, the allowed delay offset between the traffic channels increase with the number of the frame numbers, and the order of the frames maintained under any circumstances.
