Provided are new high strength 6xxx and 7xxx series aluminum alloys and methods of making aluminum products thereof. These aluminum products may be used to fabricate components which may replace steel in a variety of applications including the automotive industry. In some examples, the disclosed high strength 6xxx and 7xxx series aluminum alloys can replace high strength steels with aluminum. In one example, steels having a yield strength below 450 MPa may be replaced with the disclosed 6xxx or 7xxx series aluminum alloys without the need for major design modifications.

High strength 6xxx and 7xxx aluminum alloys and methods of making the same

Described herein are methods of processing heat treatable aluminum alloys using an accelerated aging step, along with aluminum alloy products prepared according to the methods. The methods of processing the heat treatable alloys described herein provide a more efficient method for producing aluminum alloy products having the desired strength and formability properties. For example, conventional methods of processing alloys can require 24 hours of aging. The methods described herein, however, substantially reduce the aging time, often requiring eight hours or less of aging time.

Provided herein are new clad aluminum alloy products and methods of making these alloys. These alloy products possess a combination of strength and other key attributes, such as corrosion resistance, formability, and joining capabilities. The alloy products can be used in a variety of applications, including automotive, transportation, and electronics applications.

Disclosed are high-strength, highly deformable aluminum alloys and methods of making and processing such alloys. More particularly, disclosed is a heat treatable aluminum alloy exhibiting improved mechanical strength and formability. The processing method includes casting, homogenizing, hot rolling, solutionizing, pre-aging and in some cases pre-straining. In some cases, the processing steps can further include cold rolling and/or heat treating.

High strength and highly formable aluminum alloys resistant to natural age hardening and methods of making the same

Disclosed herein are aluminum alloy products and methods of making the aluminum alloy products. Specifically, disclosed herein is an aluminum alloy provided in a temper achieved by rapidly quenching the aluminum alloy product after hot rolling. The aluminum alloys provided in the tempers described herein allow an end user to further process the aluminum alloys using less time and requiring less energy.
