A safety system for a vehicle providing a road departure protection feature comprises a camera, mounted to the vehicle to provide a view of a driving direction of the vehicle, and an electronic control unit connected to the camera. The electronic control unit includes instructions for analyzing the image and comparing the roadway path to the predicted vehicle path. The electronic control unit determines a vehicle roadway departure is occurring when the predicted vehicle path differs from the roadway path by a predetermined threshold, and then determines at least one corrective action to return the vehicle path to the roadway path. The safety system sends instructions to apply at least one corrective action with at least an electronic stability control system.

A method of avoiding a collision while operating a vehicle in reverse comprises detecting an object proximate to a vehicle with at least one sensor including detecting objects located along side of a vehicle and determining a predicted vehicle path, including a tracking path for front wheels of the vehicle. A probability is determined with a controller located within the vehicle of collision of one of the front corner and a side of the vehicle with the object while the vehicle is travelling in reverse and at least one collision avoidance response is determined with the controller based on the probability of collision.

A method of controlling a backing system for a vehicle and trailer assembly comprises initiating a backing system mode with an electronic control unit (ECU) for the backing system when a start system input is received from a control device. At least one input is received by the ECU from the control device which includes information about a desired vehicle action. The ECU interprets from the at least one input the desired vehicle action and calculates a required vehicle response to achieve the desired vehicle action. The ECU then sends a request to at least one vehicle system to perform the calculated vehicle response.

A requested hitch angle rate of change versus distance traveled is calculated with the electronic control unit, wherein the requested hitch angle rate of change is based upon an input which provides a requested hitch angle rate of change signal value. A steering angle is calculated with the electronic control unit based upon the requested hitch angle rate of change, wherein the steering angle will allow movement of the vehicle-trailer unit in the reverse direction to obtain the requested hitch angle rate of change; and a request is sent to a steering system to provide the steering angle.

An automatic braking system for a vehicle includes an electronic brake system capable of applying wheel brakes to decelerate the vehicle and a controller. The controller includes instructions for detecting an object proximate to a vehicle with at least one sensor for a reverse collision avoidance system and determining a collision confidence value based upon the probability of collision with the object. The controller further includes instructions for determining a desired velocity profile of the vehicle that provides for deceleration of the vehicle.

A display system for a vehicle comprises a display mounted within a passenger compartment of a vehicle and at least one camera mounted to the vehicle and facing at least partially in a rear direction. The display shows the images recorded by the camera(s) to provide a rear view for the driver of the vehicle. An ECU is controllably connected to the display screen and the at least one camera to analyze an image from the at least one camera to detect when an object in the image is an emergency vehicle; and to activate an alert on the display when an emergency vehicle is detected.

A vehicle window assembly includes a body structure, a hinge structure, and a covering panel. The hinge structure includes a hinge base and a hinge cover, the hinge base including an attachment portion attached to an upper portion of the body structure, a cover mounting portion, and a loop support portion extending from the attachment portion to the cover mounting portion, the hinge cover being attached to the cover mounting portion. The covering panel includes a hanging loop with a hanging section disposed between the loop support portion of the hinge base and the hinge cover, and is movable between a secured position in which the hanging section of the hanging loop is positioned adjacent the attachment portion of the hinge base, and an unsecured position in which the hanging section of the hanging loop is disposed adjacent the cover mounting portion of the hinge base.

Vehicle window assembly

A vehicle window assembly includes a body structure, a hinge structure, and a covering panel. The covering panel overlies an inboard side of a window opening, and comprises a hanging loop with a hanging section. The hinge structure comprises a hinge base and a hinge cover, and is attached to the upper portion of the body structure. The hinge cover attaches to the hinge base to form a loop support portion between the hinge base and the hinge cover, and to enclose a hanging loop, preventing removal of the hanging loop. The loop support portion enables the hanging loop to be movable between a secured position in which the hanging section is positioned adjacent the inboard end of the hinge base, and an unsecured position in which the hanging section is disposed adjacent the outboard end of the hinge base.

An automatic braking system for a vehicle is disclosed and includes an electronic brake system capable of applying wheel brakes to decelerate the vehicle and a controller. The controller includes instructions for maintaining the electronic brake system in a pre-charge condition when the vehicle is operating in a reverse gear, and applying the wheel brakes independent of a driver input.

A negative obstacle detection system for a vehicle comprises a stereo camera mountable to the vehicle to provide a forward facing image and a long range radar mountable to the vehicle to emit a signal in a forward direction from the vehicle. An electronic control unit receives data from the stereo camera and the long range radar to determine if a negative obstacle may be located in a forward proximity to the vehicle.

A safety interlock system for a motor vehicle has a plurality of object sensors capable of detecting the presence of an object such as a pedestrian in the danger zone at the front of the vehicle, rear the vehicle or proximate to the wheels. A door sensor is capable of detecting the open or closed state of the vehicle doors. An interlock override switch and a control circuit are also connected to the safety interlock system. The control circuit is capable of activating the safety interlock system when a door open signal is received. When the safety interlock system is activated the control circuit may engage the brakes to prevent motion of the vehicle if an object signal is received from the object sensor.
