Devices and methods for testing cement include: a pressure vessel with a sample container inside an interior working volume of the pressure vessel, the pressure vessel configured to supply a first pressurized fluid to control a pore pressure of a cement sample and to supply a second pressurized fluid to lateral exterior surfaces of the sample container to provide a confining pressure that can be different than the pore pressure.

Cement testing

Systems and methods provide for testing a cement by applying force in a first direction until the first portion of the cement sample fails in compression or tension; and applying force a second direction opposite the first direction until the second portion of the cement sample fails in tension or compression.

An apparatus for preparing and testing a sample of a subterranean formation, the apparatus comprising a pressure cell defining an interior volume, the pressure cell comprising a first end member comprising a channel formed therein, a second end member, a wall member positioned between the first end member and the second end member, and a sample cell positioned within the interior volume of the pressure cell, wherein the channel of the first end member fluidly connects with a first point external of the pressure cell, with a second point external of the pressure cell, and with the sample cell.

Methods of determining the mechanical properties of a sample include applying a first pressure condition to a first portion of the sample and applying a second pressure condition to the second portion of the sample, the second pressure condition being different than the first pressure condition.

Measuring mechanical properties

A cement sample testing apparatus including a first pressure zone; a second pressure zone; and a pressure control system. The pressure control system can be in fluid communication with the first pressure zone and the second pressure zone, operable to raise the first pressure zone to a first pressure above ambient pressure, and operable to raise the second pressure zone to a second pressure above ambient pressure. Measuring cement properties

A method of servicing a wellbore comprising placing a cement composition comprising a cementitious material, water, and an elastomeric material comprising a bonding polar group into a wellbore, and allowing the cement composition to set to form a set cement, wherein the elastomeric material has a phase transition temperature, exhibits cold flow behavior, or both at less than or equal to the bottom hole static temperature of the wellbore. A method of servicing a cased wellbore penetrating a formation, comprising introducing a self-repairing cementitious material into a wellbore, and allowing the cement to set, wherein upon a loss of structural integrity the set cement self-repairs, and wherein the loss of structural integrity comprises the formation of flow pathways for fluid migration in the cement and self-repair comprises obstructing potential pathways for fluid migration.

Self repairing cement compositions and methods of using same

A core sample test apparatus applies pressure to the core sample and measures responsive longitudinal deformation with two sensors and lateral deformation with two orthogonal pairs of diametrically disposed sensors. The apparatus holds the core sample under test in a sleeve to which no or insignificant end torsional forces are applied during installation due to rotationally blocked washers used adjacent the ends of the sleeve. Concurrent acoustic testing can also be applied.

Core sample test method and apparatus

Methods of completing poorly consolidated subterranean formations bounded by one or more consolidated formations to prevent sand production from the poorly consolidated formations are provided. The methods basically comprise the steps of drilling a well bore into the consolidated boundary formation adjacent to the poorly consolidated formation, creating a propped fracture communicating with the well bore in the consolidated boundary formation which extends into the poorly consolidated formation and producing fluids from the poorly consolidated formation into the well bore by way of the propped fracture.

Sand control well completion methods for poorly consolidated formations

A core sample from an oil or gas well can be quickly and easily inserted and removed relative to a reusable sealing sleeve fixed within a test housing wherein the core sample is tested for both longitudinal and lateral strain in response to applied stress. Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio can be determined from the strain and stress information. Pressures and temperature can be set to simulate downhole conditions inside the apparatus.

The present invention relates to a method of hydraulically fracturing a first zone with a first fluid and an adjacent second zone with a second fluid which preferably is chemically reactive with the first fluid to produce a precipitate or gel upon contact therewith. Preferably the fluids are separated from one another in the wellbore and are pumped into their respective zones at approximately the same rate so that they spread radially outward from the wellbore into the formation. Upon contact, the two fluids react with one another to form a precipitate or gel at the interface between the two zones thereby arresting further fracture propagation between the zones.
