A transmission includes an input shaft coupled to a prime mover, a countershaft, main shaft, and an output shaft, with gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. A shift actuator selectively couples the input shaft to the main shaft by rotatably coupling gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. The shift actuator is mounted on an exterior wall of a housing including the countershaft and the main shaft. An integrated actuator housing includes a single external power access for the shift actuator. A controller interprets a shaft displacement angle, determines if the transmission is in an imminent zero or zero torque region, and performs a transmission operation in response to the transmission in the imminent zero or zero torque region.

An integrated actuator housing is operationally coupled to the shift actuator and a linear clutch actuator. The linear clutch actuator is a self-adjusting actuator, and the transmission includes a self-adjusting clutch.

A system and method for predicting a destination gear for engine and transmission control is described. Auxiliary splitter section (B) shifts are automatically implemented by a splitter shifter () under commands () from a controller (). The controller () includes logic rules for determining an expected front box gear and determining whether an intended shift is one of a button shift and a compound shift. When a compound shift is intended, a shift lever lateral position, a shift lever fore-aft position, and a splitter switch position are used to determine the predicted destination gear. The controller () can use the predicted destination gear for engine and splitter control. Prediction of destination gear for progressive shift feature

A system and method for completing an automatic up-shift during an engine progressive governor event in a controller-assisted, manually shifted compound transmission system () and splitter shift control therefor. Auxiliary splitter section (B) shifts are automatically implemented by a splitter shifter () under commands () from a controller (). The controller () overrides the engine governor control and controls engine torque to approach, and preferably reach a zero torque condition and bring the transmission to a splitter-neutral condition to enable an automatic up-shift when the splitter button has been selected or lever shift has been moved by the operator. Depending on the type of shift event, the transmission will automatically complete the upshift or the operator can manually complete the upshift after engine synchronization. Automatic splitter and governor control for manually shifted transmission

A control for enhanced range shifting in a computer () assisted vehicular compound transmission having a main section (A) shifted by a manually operated shift lever () and a range section (B) shifted in response to operation of a range shift selector, such as sensing shift lever () passing through a predetermined actuation point (AR) in the shift pattern. During a compound up-shift, if the vehicle reaches a speed greater than a predetermined value during a coasting condition and the shift lever is in a low range neutral position, then the range section up-shift is automatically completed without undue wear or damage to the range section synchronized clutch ().
