A method for receiving an emergency communication includes receiving a first portion of a first communication. The method also includes receiving a second portion of a second communication. The second communication may be a duplicate of the first communication. The method includes reconstructing the first communication using the first portion and the second portion.

Systems and methods for determining texting locations and network coverage

A system utilizing an Adventure Rescue Locator app and a Buddy app allows an adventurer to communicate his or her location throughout an adventure. The ARL app can provide quick and simple check-in messages that transmit location and other information and build a database of known 'good' locations from which an adventurer is able to communicate via text, as well as known 'not good' locations. The apps can share such information with a wide user-base, thus making the location information available to others. The app can serve to display the adventurer's check-in locations on a map; alert that the adventurer has an adventure in progress; keep track of the time the adventurer is planning on returning home and alert if the Adventurer fails to arrive; auto-confirm check-in texts with the ARL app; etc.

Modular convertible furniture systems include a pair of similar open-ended box frame assemblies which are nestable one within the other. A pair of slotted support rails are attached pivotally at respective opposing corners of one of the box frame assemblies so as to be movable between raised and lowered positions. When in a raised position, the rails provide a support for a solid board plank thereby becoming a seat back (e.g., for a chair, love seat, or sofa-type arrangement). When the rails are in a lowered position substantially parallel to the ground, the two box frame assemblies may be oriented back-to-back so as to provide a support for a mattress thereby converting the structure into a bed arrangement, for example. The box frame assemblies can be positioned on different sides and ends thereby allowing formation of tables and/or shelving as may be desired.

A method and apparatus for improving the resolution of fundus images and correction of optical aberrations is described in which a bundle of electromagnetic beams is directed into an optical system and the reflected electromagnetic beams are recorded by a sensor. A processor may control the energy source to provide a plurality of different electromagnetic bundles to image the entire optical system. The reflected electromagnetic beams recorded by the sensor are compared to the original electromagnetic bundle configurations to calculate the aberrations of the optical system of interest. Among other applications, the calculated aberrations may be used to construct accurate fundus images, provide input for laser surgery of the eye, fabricate corrective lenses and provide accurate digital images of structures sensed through imperfect optical systems.

System and method for reconstruction of aberrated wavefronts

A slot antenna is used to transmit radio frequency (RF) signals from within the housing of an electronic parking meter. The antenna is formed on a circuit board from a layer of conductive material from which some material has been removed to form a slot. A signal feed element, such as a coaxial cable terminating at a coaxial connector, connects electrically to the layer of conductive material on one side of the slot. A conductive element extends from the signal feed element across the slot to connect to the layer of conductive material.

In one embodiment, an antenna has two annular conductive elements separated by a slot, and a third conductive element connecting the annular conductive elements together at at least one end of the slot. In another embodiment, an antenna has two generally parallel conductive elements of different heights separated by a slot, and a third conductive element connecting the conductive members together at at least one end of the slot.

A serrated slot antenna includes two annular conductors separated by a slot having a serrated edge. A shorting post connects the annular conductors to each other at some point along the slot. The slot antenna can be made, e.g., by affixing conductive tape to a flexible substrate, photoetching a pattern in the copper-clad surface of a flexible substrate, or machining material from a conductive tubing.

A furniture frame has components which may be manipulated and/or reoriented so that it assumes various furniture configurations. The furniture frame most preferably includes a number of tubular sections which are joined to one another and separated by at least one cross-support member. A number (e.g., a pair) of detachable leg members having L-shaped sections may be inserted telescopically into the vertical or horizontal tubular components of the side frames and fixed in position, if desired, with the use of conventional pegs, screws, bolts, pins or like fixing elements. Depending upon the relative configuration of these components, therefore, furniture frames for various furniture pieces may be provided using a single frame structure.

A trapezoidal shaped peripheral seal is inserted in a trapezoidal cast peripheral groove in the valve body. A relief cut-out is disposed beneath the peripheral groove. The sealing function is effected by loading the peripheral seal with the gate so as to deflect the seal into the groove a relief cut out which places the seal in a shear mode.
