Soft tissue biopsy apparatus (10) for obtaining a tissue specimen. An elongate housing (12) has an opening (20) at one end (14). A hollow cannula (26) is positioned within the housing, is reciprocally movable therewithin, and one end (28) of the needle extends through the opening for insertion into tissue (T) from which a specimen is to be taken. A needle (44) is positioned within the cannula, is reciprocally movable therewithin, and also has an end (46) extending through the opening for insertion into the tissue. This needle has a recess (50) adjacent its outer end in which a tissue specimen is captured. The needle is connected to a slide (68) by which the needle is moved independently of the cannula. A sleeve (110) installed over the housing is manually operable to move the slide to a selected and cocked position prior to insertion of the cannula/needle into the tissue. Movement of the slide moves the second needle from a first position to a second position while the cannula remains stationary. A release mechanism (114) operable by the user after the insertion of the assembly into the tissue initially returns the needle to its first position and then moves the cannula from a first position to a second position. Movement of the cannula to its second position causes the end of the said cannula to cover the end of the needle to capture the tissues specimen within the recess.

Disposable spring-loaded soft tissue biopsy apparatus

Soft tissue biopsy apparatus (10) for obtaining a tissue specimen. An elongate housing (12) has an opening (20) at one end (14). A hollow cannula (26) is positioned within the housing, is reciprocally movable therewithin, and one end (28) of the needle extends through the opening for insertion into tissue (T) from which a specimen is to be taken. A needle (44) is positioned within the cannula, is reciprocally movable therewithin, and also has an end (46) extending through the opening for insertion into the tissue. This needle has a recess (50) adjacent its outer end in which a tissue specimen is captured. The needle is connected to a slide (68) by which the needle is moved independently of the cannula. A sleeve (110) installed over the housing is manually operable to move the slide to a selected and cocked position prior to insertion of the cannula/needle into the tissue. Movement of the slide moves the second needle from a first position to a second position while the cannula remains stationary. A release mechanism (114) operable by the user after insertion of the assembly into the tissue initially returns the needle to its first position and then moves the cannula from a first position to a second position. Movement of the cannula to its second position causes the end of the said cannula to cover the end of the needle to capture the tissue speciment within the recess.

Disposable soft tissue biopsy apparatus

Apparatus and process for the recovery of particulate material lost during the passage of a surface treatment blast head having a magnetic particle seal over the surface under treatment. Wipers adapted to substantially contain the leakage material are spaced in close proximity around the outside perimeter of the magnetic seal. One or more slotted vacuum tubes are positioned between the magnetic seals and the wipers; each vacuum tube being interconnected by hoses or pipes to a recovery chamber which, in turn, is operatively interconnected with the blast head through a material transfer valve. The recovery chamber is further provided with a vacuum flapper valve adapted to selectively inhibit the flow of vacuum air through the chamber and slotted vacuum tube. During a first step the vacuum valve is open and the material transfer valve is closed. In this configuration, vacuum air and leakage material is drawn into the recovery chamber through the slotted vacuum tube and the recovered leakage material is retained therein for subsequent recycling. During a second step the vacuum valve is closed and the material transfer valve is open thereby facilitating the transfer of recovered leakage material to the blast head for reuse.

Abrasive seal recovery system

An improved method and apparatus for supplying a fluid coolant to a tool designed for drilling a hole in a workpiece, wherein a first coolant flow is supplied under pressure in a pulsating flow to the tip of the drill by a first pump with a second and booster coolant flow being supplied in a pulsating flow and under considerably greater pressure than the first flow. The second fluid flow is initiated in response to the build-up of back pressure to the first fluid flow to thereby flush away chips impacted on the drill causing such back pressure. The second fluid flow is terminated in response to the drop of back pressure to the first fluid flow.

Drilling method and apparatus

A flow control handle for supplying lubricant to a grease fitting. The handle includes a flow control valve interiorly thereof, a handle extension and a manual trigger for controlling the flow control valve. A pressure relief valve is operable to relieve high pressure grease in the handle extension. This valve is automatically closed and is opened by movement of the trigger in a direction opposite to that required to open the flow control valve whereby high pressure grease cannot enter the extension when the relief valve is open.

Grease gun and pressure relief valve therefor

A flow control handle for supplying lubricant to a grease fitting. The handle includes a flow control valve interiorly thereof, a handle extension and a manual trigger for controlling the flow control valve. A pressure relief valve is operable to relieve high pressure grease in the handle extension. This valve is an internally seating pin valve disposed in the wall of the handle extension which is spring biased to a closed position. The valve is opened by movement of the trigger into engagement with the valve stem to compress the spring. Movement of the trigger is in a direction opposite to that required to open the flow control valve whereby high pressure grease cannot enter the extension when the relief valve is open.
