A highly effective and regenerable method, system and device that enables the desulfurization of warm fuel gases by passing these warm gasses over metal-based sorbents arranged in a mesoporous substrate. This technology will protect Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalysts and other sulfur sensitive catalysts, without drastic cooling of the fuel gases. This invention can be utilized in a process either alone or alongside other separation processes, and allows the total sulfur in such a gas to be reduced to less than 500 ppb and in some instances as low as 50 ppb.

Methods, systems, and devices for deep desulfurization of fuel gases

Disclosed herein are sorbents and devices for controlling sulfur oxides emissions as well as systems including such sorbents and devices. Also disclosed are methods for making and using the disclosed sorbents, devices and systems. In one embodiment the disclosed sorbents can be conveniently regenerated, such as under normal exhaust stream from a combustion engine, particularly a diesel engine. Accordingly, also disclosed are combustion vehicles equipped with sulfur dioxide emission control devices.

Fast-regenerable sulfur dioxide adsorbents for diesel engine emission control

Octahedral molecular sieve sorbents and catalysts are disclosed, including silver hollandite and cryptomelane. These materials can be used, for example, to catalyze the oxidation of CO(e.g., CO), NO(e.g., NO), hydrocarbons (e.g., CH) and/or sulfur-containing compounds. The disclosed materials also may be used to catalyze other reactions, such as the reduction of NO. In some cases, the disclosed materials are capable of sorbing certain products from the reactions they catalyze. Silver hollandite, in particular, can be used to remove a substantial portion of certain sulfur-containing compounds from a gas or liquid by catalysis and/or sorption. The gas or liquid can be, for example, natural gas or a liquid hydrocarbon.

Octahedral molecular sieve sorbents and catalysts

A microchannel device includes several mass transfer microchannels to receive a fluid media for processing at least one heat transfer microchannel in fluid communication with a heat transfer fluid defined by a thermally conductive wall, and at several thermally conductive fins each connected to the wall and extending therefrom to separate the mass transfer microchannels from one another. In one form, the device may optionally include another heat transfer microchannel and corresponding wall that is positioned opposite the first wall and has the fins and the mass transfer microchannels extending therebetween.

Devices with extended area structures for mass transfer processing of fluids

Microchannel devices and method of use are disclosed wherein a reaction microchamberis in thermal contact with a heat exchange channel. An equilibrium limited exothermic chemical process occurs in the reaction microchamber. Sufficient heat is transferred to the heat exchange channels to substantially lower the temperature in the reaction microchamberdown its length to substantially increase at least one performance parameter of the exothermic chemical process relative to isothermal operation. Optionally, an endothermic reaction occurs in the heat exchange channelwhich is sustained by the exothermic chemical process occurring the exothermic reaction chamber. Both the reaction chamberand the heat exchange channelcan be of micro dimension. Catalystcan be provided in the microchamberin sheet form such that reactants flow by the catalyst sheet. A microchannel reactorcan be formed by integrally bonding an alternating stack of thin recessed sheets wherein the recesses in the sheets define the flow paths.

Microchannel reactors with temperature control

High capacity sulfur oxide absorbents utilizing manganese-based octahedral molecular sieve (Mn&#x2014;OMS) materials are disclosed. An emissions reduction system for a combustion exhaust includes a scrubbercontaining these high capacity sulfur oxide absorbents located upstream from a NOX filteror particulate trap.
