The present invention includes a foam-forming composition for use in enhanced oil recovery, and a method of using said foam-forming composition for recovering oil. The foam-forming composition of the present invention comprises a nonionic surfactant, in particular an alcohol-alkoxylate, and an anionic surfactant, in particular an alkyl diphenyloxide (di)sulfonate, where the foam-forming composition promotes a formation of a stable foam formed of a COand water.

Co-surfactant foam-forming composition for enhanced oil recovery

This invention relates to a foam-forming composition having good low temperature stability and method of use thereof for enhanced oil recovery. Said foam-forming composition comprises an anionic sulfonate surfactant, preferably an alpha-olefin sulfonate, a alkyl ether solvent, and water and is preferably stable to at least &#x2212;5 C. A preferred alkyl ether solvent has the formula C8H18O3, C8H16O3, or mixtures thereof. Preferred alpha-olefin sulfonate have 10 to 18 carbons, preferably 12 carbons. A preferred method for recovering oil from a reservoir comprises the periodic injection of gas and said foam-forming composition into the reservoir and contacting the oil in the reservoir with the foam so as to assist in the recovery of oil from the reservoir.

This invention provides stable aqueous compositions including stable coating compositions, and methods of their production. The stable aqueous compositions and stable aqueous coating compositions comprise one or more emulsion-polymerized addition polymer, one or more carboxylesterase enzyme, and one or more carboxylesterase deactivating agent, such that the ester hydrolysis activity in the composition is less than 0.010 micromole/minute, and wherein the aqueous composition has a headspace volatile organic compound (VOC) content, as measured by headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) at 33&#xb0; C., of less than 10 ppm of organic carboxylester with a normal boiling point of less than 150&#xb0; C. and more than 50 ppm of mono-alcohol with a formula molecular weight of less than 76. The carboxylesterase enzyme is employed to minimize the free carboxylester content in the composition, thereby providing a low odor composition, and the carboxylesterase is deactivated in situ in order to minimize the residual carboxylesterase enzyme activity.

Preferably, the ester hydrolysis activity in the composition is less than 0.010 micromole/minute.
