A golf ball made by a process that prevents the cover from cracking due to thermal expansion of the core during the cover formation process. The method includes the forming a core. One or more optional boundary layers can be applied to the surface of the core. The core and any boundary layers are pre-heated such that the core and any boundary layer undergo volumetric thermal expansion. After the pre-heating, the cover of the ball is formed over the core and any boundary layer. The method of the present invention also decreases cover molding cycle times for golf balls.

A golf club head having a face section with a polymer surface can provide a more efficient impact between a golf ball and the golf club head. By utilizing a polymer surface with desired material properties of stress, strain and damping levels, the face section will incur higher strain and strain rate levels than the golf ball. These lower internal stresses within the golf ball yield a more efficient impact with a golf club head.

A method and system for finishing a golf ball to prevent tip marks is disclosed herein. The present invention includes whitening a portion of a golf ball, then positioning the golf ball in such manner that the tips of a carrier engage the whitened portion. The whitening may be accomplished by inkjet, pad printing or painting.

A multiple layer golf ball having a high compression core and a soft boundary layer is disclosed herein. The multiple layer golf ball may also have a hard cover. The soft boundary layer allows the multiple layer golf ball to mimic the properties of a lower compression core while providing good distance. The boundary layer is composed of a polyurethane formed from a PPDI-based prepolymer while the core is composed of a polybutadiene. The cover may be composed of an ionomer blend.
