A computing device comprises an air moving device operable to produce an airflow that removes heat from one or more components that are arranged upstream from the air moving device. The airflow corresponds to an acoustic energy signature. The computing device further comprises one or more mechanical drives that are arranged downstream from the air moving device, and a baffle comprising a first surface and an opposing second surface. The baffle is disposed between the air moving device and the one or more mechanical drives. The baffle defines a plurality of perforations extending between the first surface and the second surface, and the plurality of perforations are dimensioned and arranged to mitigate one or more predefined components of the acoustic energy signature of the airflow while permitting a first portion of the airflow to pass through the baffle to remove heat from the one or more mechanical drives.

An anti-motor fret package/container is provided including a main insert, a top cover, and a cardboard shell. The package is especially adapted for securing computer disk drives therein. Potential damage to the computer disk drives is minimized by isolating any movement of the disk drives within the package. A central rib, displacement means, or contacting means are provided to press or hold the disk drives tightly against side walls of their loading compartments. Movement of the disk drives within the package is particularly constrained in the lateral or transverse direction to avoid the phenomena known as motor fret. The overall arrangement and construction of the package minimizes vibration and shock transferred to the disk drives during shipment.

A rotary shock testing system including a rotating table mounted to a bearing plate of a precision bearing assembly. The bearing plate to which the rotating table is attached preferably includes upper and lower surfaces supported against ported plates to thereby prevent vertical translation of the bearing plate along the axis of rotation. Oil is injected through ports in the ported plates to provide a substantially frictionless hydrostatic bearing between the upper and lower surfaces of the bearing plate and respective surfaces of the ported plates. The precision bearing further includes a pair of tapered bearings and a roller bearing, spaced along the axis of rotation, which bearings further support the bearing plate for substantially frictionless rotation while preventing translation in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation and precession of the axis of rotation. The tapered bearings further assist in preventing vertical translation of the bearing plate along the axis of rotation. A shock generation and delivery system for delivering a shock to the rotating table includes a pneumatic cylinder storing a pressurized gas, and a lever for receiving a shock generated by the pressurized gas within the pneumatic cylinder, and delivering the shock to the rotating table.
