A mobile device may detect when a calling party dials an emergency service to request emergency assistance. Following input of the dialed digits, the device may automatically generate a text message in addition to initiating a voice call, both of which may be transmitted over a wireless data network. The wireless network nay correlate the two calls as originating from the same emergency situation and may attempt to deliver the two calls to a Public Services Answering Position (PSAP) at an appropriate emergency center. If the PSAP does not receive a voice call, the PSAP may communicate with the device via test messaging.

Text message generation for emergency services as a backup to voice communications

A mobile device may detect when a calling party dials an emergency service to request emergency assistance. Following input of the dialed digits, the device may automatically generate a text message in addition to initiating a voice call, both of which may be transmitted over a wireless data network. The wireless network may correlate the two calls as originating from the same emergency situation and may attempt to deliver the two calls to a Public Services Answering Position (PSAP) at an appropriate emergency center. If the PSAP does not receive a voice call, the PSAP may communicate with the device via test messaging.

A telecommunications system uses an external application gateway (EAG) in communication with a network call control element and external server systems for controlling calls. The telecommunications system further includes a session initiation protocol (SIP) proxy, an intelligent application proxy, and an intelligent application call control. The EAG communicates with a network call control element of a packet network and a third party application server for controlling calls. The external application gateway controls the flow of information between the network call control element and the third party application server, performing such functions as modifying or stripping out network-proprietary information with delivery of the modified messages to the third party application server, keeping track of call state information and associating messages with specific calls, verifying that the third party application server is making only allowed requests, and limiting traffic volumes.

The present invention relates to a network interface device and a communication network incorporating the network interface device. The network interface device may receive incoming calls placed from a copper loop network, a cable network or wireless network, determine CallerID information of the call and the IP address of at least one end device and multicast the CallerID information to at least one end device such as a television, stereo or computer, for example.

A voice activated device using speaker independent speech recognition is capable of receiving from a remote location the phonetic spellings needed for speech recognition in the device. The phonetic spellings, as well as additional application data, are communicated to the voice activated device from the remote location and stored in the device. A user can then speak voice commands which are intercepted by the device where local processing of the voice commands takes place. The device makes available to the user extensive information pertaining to multiple network services or applications. The information may be communicated to the user by voice or via other communication media.
